Ever saw that video of a very large [black] man being stopped by a female [white] officer - and he smashed her face in...the guys daughter is in the vehicle screaming for them to go...he was unarmed [no handgun]...and the officer had to have reconstructive surgery....
Not having a weapon [handgun, knife, bazooka] doesn’t mean - not a danger to the officers life.
I had plenty of encounters where a fight ensued and the person I was arresting attempted to gain control over my service weapon - unarmed can become armed quickly.
