“If I leave this earth today, at least you’ll know I care about others more than I cared about my damn self.”
= = = = = = = = = = = = = =
I believe far to much is being read into this line.
Sounds like more of a line from a poem or such or even a ‘rap song’ than the ramblings of a teen ager - Black or White.
I am sure that someone can go back through ALL the postings of us on here and with good, select, editing - can come up with outlandish statements - if taken way out of context or omitting lead in and finish up lines.

When I first saw it, I was reminded of the ‘old prayer’ that children used - “If I die before I wake...etc...” is more of a catch all than figuring you were going to do before dawn.

Like the kid (eye witness??/Accomplice) and his ‘eloquent story’ of the shooting.... When the SHTF, the kid was quick to not only change HIS story, but throw ALL the blame on the ‘dead partner’.... That is definitely CYA 101 - blame the dead guy.

Kind of like Judge Judy questioning the ‘victim’ of a car keying...
“what did she say”
“I am going to scratch your paint and cost you money”
JJ “No, she didn’t say that - WHAT DID SHE SAY”
“I am going to F-— you ride up”.
“Thank you”....etc...etc

I’d like to see the context.

I did a search of the quote before Aug 8, 2014 and -Brown. No results. If it was a poem it didn’t show up online until Brown put it on FB.

There is no doubt that Brown either thought he could survive a run on an armed police officer, or made a suicidal run on an armed police officer.

The kid ran away, changed his mind, and went back. I don’t know how drugs work. Would a drug turn him around to charge at an armed police officer?

It appears that Brown was involved with at least one if not two gangs. I wonder if those gang members were Black Panthers as well. From the outset the Black Panthers were set on using Brown’s death for violent purposes. And so were Brown’s friends, from one of the articles I linked to. They seemed to think that violence would honor Brown’s death - the total opposite of what his parents said.
