I think its technically Jennings MO. About 3 miles from the center of Ferguson.

The racial makeup of the city was 8.5% White, 89.8% African American, 0.1% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.6% of the population.

The suspect was referred to as an African American, 23 years of age. Just to keep the original statements from the presser:

According to police, the suspect pulled out a knife and was acting erratically when officers arrived. Chief Sam Dotson told reporters the suspect told responding officers to “shoot me now, kill me now.” Dotson said officers asked the suspect to drop the knife, which he was holding in an overhead grip, and the suspect refused to do.

When the suspect approached the officers carrying a knife, officers fired shots striking the suspect. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting.
