Still...it is worth the loss to move and survive.

Sorry. No insurance company is going to pay for losses or damage due to riots, civil unrest or war. It’s the very first disclaimer to an insurance policy.

That’s why businesses that get looted in civil unrest are closed permanently. The cash inflow stops, the inventory is gone or destroyed, and the vendors and banks are still owed.

Unless it is a very large company, say McDonald’s, or maybe even the ‘Quick Trip’ that was looted and burned the first night, that can absorb the local losses over a very large balance sheet of an international chain, it’s basically corporate and often personal bankruptcy, too, for the owners.

In short, their *is* no store to re-open. The store isn’t the physical building, the store is the owner/entrepreneur, who’s credit rating is now destroyed. Even if the individual has the financial wherewithal to rebuild and reopen; once you get mugged like that, you generally don’t return to the location of the mugging for any reason.

Poverty doesn’t cause crime. Crime causes poverty.

And these images DISPROVE ‘stereotypes’? They reinforce them. Stereotypes are born from facts- facts like this. During the 30’s were not all Italians suspected of being Mafia connected? Why? Because the Italian Mafia WAS the main cause of the violence and rub-outs. If blacks don’t want to be stereotyped perhaps they should control their sons and nephews and daughters and prevent them from GIVING a black face to crime and violence. All this stolen stuff goes home to someone- who KNOWS how it was acquired. These looters have family and relatives who condone, excuse and support this behavior. Stop CAUSING stereotyping by BEING what decent people see as a logical assumption based on facts.

Parts of Madison Ave in Chicago were a desert for 30 years after the 68 riots.

Yes, Madison Street runs through the heart of the west side ghetto/ riot zone. And it took decades to see any recovery.

Collect any insurance. Move to a community that appreciates you. Do this ASAP.

How many small business people in Ferguson who have been wiped out by the riots, will want to rebuild there in Ferguson? I would bet that very few will want to remain there after all of this.

epending on the insurance, there might not be any coverage. An insurance company could argue the looting was part of a “civil unrest” or a “riot”, which are common exclusions from a lot of commercial property insurance policies.

Even if the store owner can recover the value of some of the stolen goods, he/she may not get much for the property damage.

Another issue is that many small businesses do not own their premises, but are in leased retail space. If the owner of the property decides to bulldoze the place and abandon it, these business owners may not be able to stay, even if they want to rebuild and stay in Ferguson.

Well put.

Then 2 or 3 years from now there’ll be a news story of the closed businesses and still burnt out buildings with the locals saying, “They need to come down here and create jobs. Give us some place to buy food. I gotta walk 5 miles now to get to da sto!”

Good point re Italians.

I call it postjudiced. Prejudice = pre-judging.

Postjudiced is drawing conclusions rationally based on life experiences.

Is no insurance policy. Civil unrest is an exclusion.

Store owners have a line of credit. They have an inventory but they usually don’t ‘own’ that inventory. It’s all on a line of credit.

Now the inventory is gone and store gone. Not an insured lost.

Owner of business is screwed.

So, unless the businessman has deep pockets, and wants to be committed to the community and stay in Ferguson, they are simply out of business, end of story.

It’s likely that years from now, these areas of Ferguson will still look like a bombed out war zone.

There should be a way to know which phone were stolen and have them traced. High time these thugs were arrested.

Why not have there EBT cards tired to arrests. Every night you spend in jail is $100 off your card. Other infractions such as parking tickets, not reporting to probation, your little angels skipping school are $50 each.

Look for an exodus of businesses to leave Ferguson, ASAP.
