If the idiot civil authorities were not terrified of “optics” and historical connotations then the safest way of dealing with this would be the use of fire hoses.
Of course, we’d have to endure endless choruses of “We Shall Overcome” and video clips of Jesse, Al & Eric walking across the Selma (Ferguson) Bridge arm in arm, but no one would get shot.
How about foam cannons from the airport fire department? Eventually, folks might get to laughing, call the whole riot off and go home....

You know, if anything good comes out of this Ferguson fiasco it will be that cops such as this might be held more accountable for their actions/language. That’s a good thing. Too many of them think they are above the law and act like thugs themselves in some cases.
