On Tuesday, August 19, 2014, the Islamic State posted a video on YouTube showing the decapitation of American journalist James Foley. A second American, Steven Joel Sotloff, was paraded in front of the camera. Foleys executioner, totally clad in black and speaking with an English accent, stated the life of this American citizen, Obama, depends on your next decision.
It remains to be seen how the administration will respond to this cowardly war crime. Up to this point, their approach has been weak-kneed and contradictory. While the administration reluctantly authorized limited airstrikes, it stressed that the United States will not be dragged into another war in Iraq nor act as the Iraqi Air Force. James Foleys execution demonstrates that a more forceful, direct role for the United States military against the Islamic State is required. To an understandably war weary U.S. public, the thought of more blood and treasure being expended to defeat the Islamic State may sound unpleasant. However, at this point, there is no other choice.
Limited airstrikes are not enough. We have to unleash the full military might of the United States on the Islamic State. That may mean boots on the ground -- be it conventional or Special Operations forces. That means that Islamic State forces, equipment, and infrastructure should be targeted relentlessly by U.S. air power. There should be no place in Iraq, the Middle East, or the world for that matter that these Islamist fascists feel safe or have sanctuary. Furthermore, the President should make absolutely clear that any group or country providing financial assistance or quarter to the Islamic State will face the wrath of the U.S. military.

I just want one answer.
Where the heck is the Iraqi mililtary in all this?
Did they bug out? Defect? Or are they really getting their butts kicked by 20K Sunni terrorists who mechanized on Toyota pickup trucks?
We shouldn’t have to fight there. The Iraqis should be lining their roads with ISIS members impaled on stakes. And if they can’t, we need to shoot their government, take it over, and run it ourselves.
Getting rid of the threat of ISIL means using means that the US is not ready to use. Complete eradication will entail a “take no prisoners” mind set.
“We” could not stand Abu Gahrib. You think we are going to carpet bomb large areas of Iraq.
Not likely.
They continue until they get down into the real Oil Rich areas.
Why we are not bombing oil fields is beyond me. Why we are not cutting off their finances, is beyond me.
Maybe we are.
Why do White Americans put themselves in situations like this? ISIS already is hanging people from crosses. That alone would be my clue to get out of that part of the world, now.
I would hope that any other Americans that are over there who stick out like a sore thumb have already left.
This is heartbreaking, but they’re only journalist. Hire someone who blends in to the society to take the pictures.
I call it “assumption of risk.” Thy guy went to SYRIA during a revolution. Whatever happens to him from that point on is his problem.
I am more concerned about the Christians and Yezidees behing wiped out. It is not like they have any choices in the matter. We should be shipping weapons in to them and women and children out.
Nada al-Ahdal is described in the present tense according to wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nada_al-Ahdal
Thankfully.
I wish the media wouldn’t call them “the Islamic State “, which is apparently what they want to be called.
