That's awfully fast. Could be the widespread discontent with Win8 has percolated through over in Redmond. Somebody up-thread said it first, but it's true: the OS is great, the UI is awful. Win8.1 is a big improvement over Win8 in UI, an acknowledgement of a few inconvenient truths: people like working with multiple windows/apps simultaneously, people like a Start button, people don't like hovering a mouse cursor over a vague blank area on the screen and waiting for icons to magically appear. None of those are OS issues.

Don't start me on yet another redesign of the Office UI. I'm still digging users out from the "Let's do everything with ribbons!" switcheroo. And that was a long time ago now. I still have users stubbornly clinging to WordPerfect. It's how they work, it's how they're effective. It isn't really up to the vendors to tell them how they ought to be doing their business.

“I still have users stubbornly clinging to WordPerfect.”

WordPerfect...that would be me. WordPerfect for DOS was better than Word is now. When WP “went Windows” it lost functionality. Sprint by Borland also was better than Word is.
