NOVA on PBS ran a two-hour episode where they showed all of the earth systems as seen from satellite. It was probably the most interesting NOVA I have ever seen.

For example, the snow of Antarctica and snowmelt is what keeps our planet cooled. When the salt separates from the glaciers it slides down to the floor of the ocean like a river to both the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans.

So, all these hand-wringers who keep us alarmed whenever the Antarctic glaciers begin to calve don't know what they are talking about. It is precisely the glacial melt that benefits Earth and is primarily instrumental for keeping our Earth from turning into Mars.

In fact, the interplaying systems of Earth are so huge and dynamic that it is puzzling to think how man could ever think that his interference would amount to a hill of beans
