"What does it take to wake them up?"

Good question. In the short term, I don't think anything other than a catastrophic attack on the nation will wake anyone up. You'd have thought that six years of ever-increasing tyranny, and a continuing recession (screw you eggheads -- it's still a recession!) would have awakened us, but evidently not. So short of another big, smoking pile of rubble somewhere, nothing in the near term is going to get our national head out of our national a**.

Medium and long term is different, though. Guys like you and I can start working now to make it happen. It all hinges on We The Sheeple becoming We The People again, and talking. To our neighbors, our co-workers, members of our church congregations, the guys in our softball leagues, our so-called social media "friends", and so on. We've got to quit shying away from confronting Leftists, stop letting them get away with saying the outrageous things they do, and blast them with everything we have. If you hear one of them spewing anti-American, Leftist liberal statist rot, challenge them! You'll never get them to admit they're wrong, but chances are, some wavering, meek would-be conservative will be listening from the shadows, and could step forward. I know...it's happened to me on a few occasions.

In the medium term, we need to start a little community organizing of our own. Take over our non-effective Tea Parties, and get them back out in the streets. Get back on TV screens. If your congresscritter isn't doing his or her job, grab the signs, lace up the Reeboks, and picket outside his or her local office! Form groups of your own...veterans groups, Oathkeepers, Tea Party groups, and so on. Stop being nice, stop being quiet...speak up, speak out, DO SOMETHING is my new motto. Maybe consider running for office yourself. It doesn't have to be Congress...run for the state legislature or city clowncil. Hell's bells, there is enough wrong in just about every city and county in this nation...we need good people locally, too!

In the long term, we have to quit surrendering the culture, and the pop culture that feeds it, to the Left. We have to start investing -- money, time and energy -- into creating conservative/patriotic pop culture, because that's the only thing Generation X and Generation.com knows. The 40-and-under demographic, by and large, doesn't come to Free Republic. They have never heard of the Heritage Foundation, Hillsdale College, and think Rush Limbaugh is an evil white man who only wants to keep women and minorities down. Why? Because that's what Kanye West told them.

We need to develop the infrastructure through which to find, sign, and promote conservative/patriotic artists, and get their work "out there" so as to expose young people to it. We can pi** and moan on forums like FReep all we won't, but it's never going to sway one young person. We need to go to where their attention is, and give them our message in a heavy metal or rap package they'll open. We need to give them action movies, with lots of explosions, car chases, and automatic weapons fire, where the American hero saves the day, kills all the bad guys, then says a prayer of thanks to God for giving him the strength to prevail. Think of Die Hard where John McLane says a prayer of thanks, and America wins. He does it without the help of the government, just one man, or with a group of individuals, showing the power of the American citizen, and the American way.

That's how we're going to wake them up. Sorry 'bout the rant, but you asked!
