Upper respiratory and respiratory diseases are generally bacterial....IE: the common cold, and sometimes it can accompany the Flu because the immune system is busy, and it spreads the Flu then through coughs, sneezes, etc.

The common cold is caused by a Rhinovirus. Influenza is also a virus. THanks for playing, try again some day.

The “Cold” is a very broad term that includes rino virus and a host of other viral and bacterial infections.

They rarely go to the extent of identifying the specific markers..so they treat the symptoms with antibiotics which are effective only in some half of the cases, not all.

But they do distinguish it from the FLU which is systematic and not effectively treatable yet.

If you took a swab of your nose, you will find rino-virus (meaning viruses of the nose) and a probably a dozen other interesting little bugs..viral and bacterial.

You can find that virus on any day of the week, in your own nose.

Whether or not what we call a “cold” is a direct result of it, can be a interesting subject to discuss. But today's estimates show that it's not the only actor in the nose..

Rhinoviruses — causing 10% to 40% of colds
•Coronaviruses — causing 20% of colds
•Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) — responsible for 10% of colds

Every one of these is assisted by a bacterial infection as a result of the damages done and that is what often gets into the upper respiratory system.

Which is why anti-bacterials have some effect on most colds, but not the Flu.

Frankly, we don't really know.....yet..

But what we do know is that Ebola is not spread through the respiratory system in humans.

I believe that comment is what gets your goat, but I would expect that from a conspiracy nutcase who is in great fear of a pandemic and then tries to justify that fear to everyone else..
