A really, really smart move would be to unfriend Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

We're allies, not friends. There's a difference. Without Uncle Sam as referee, the region fights several wars and becomes a single oil-producing empire, instead of a dozen. Which doubles or triples oil prices. Which is why we're allies - to keep our economy from tanking under the onslaught of higher oil prices.

We're not Ukraine's friend either. We're pressuring the Russians to leave because at 2.5x the next largest country, Russian territorial expansion helps it acquire resources that makes it much stronger, perhaps strong enough to conquer the West. As a capitalist country, Russia is in a position to rival pre-war Germany, economically-speaking, in a way the former Soviet Union found impossible. As a society that has never given up its imperial ambitions, to the point of retaining many Soviet symbols and institutions, Russia will once again seek its day in the sun via military conquest. When that happens, we will be better off if the start line is on the Ukrainian rather than the Polish border. Which is why we are offering verbal support towards helping Ukraine retain its territory, despite Ukraine not being a friend.

I just can't agree that our foreign policy of getting in entangling alliances all over the world to manipulate the oil interests and other corporate elitists global concerns is what the US is supposed to be about. The MidEast was much better off with thugs who stopped things from exploding. Saudi Arabia is not friend or ally; the hypocrisy of supporting them but not the strong-arm govs in Egypt, Libya, and Syria is appalling. In Ukraine, the world would be better off if it's partitioned and put under the rule of surrounding govs who don't fight wars against their own citizens.

911....the maniacs were Saudi. Pakistan...where Osama hung out for years. The Tsarnoff bombers...refugees from a region whose radicals we support. Qatar...probably funding ISIS types. The gov we try to topple in Syria....would be a successful partner in fight ISIS if the US weren't funding, training, and providng arms to try to topple the Assad government. Libya...hows that going for our oil interests?

No, we need to clean up our mess at home, allow Russia its sphere of influence, don't topple thugs who provide for their people, don't create wars, and protect minorities. Our policies have not been based on the principles the US was founded on, and it's coming back to slap us in the face.

If we had energy independence, we would then care less about who runs the Middle East.

It should have been the top national priority after the Arab Oil Embargo in 1973.
