Why is it that it seems mandatory that cnn has to be on at airports, hospitals, etc?”

I asked that at the place where I have my oil changed and at one of the airport waiting areas and was told it was because CNN provided the TV sets and it is part of their corporate contract. Don’t know if it’s true or not but seems plausible.

That sounds like a sensible reason. It would explain why some places are adamant about keeping cnn locked in.
