I thought that going on vacation with the president would be a real perk of serving as deputy press secretary in the Obama White House.

Don’t get me wrong: Some elements of it are amazing. When you do find some down time, you can find yourself in one of the most beautiful places on Earth enjoying its splendor with the leader of the free world and your buddies.

I also remember that the bulk of the Bush cabinet was at the ranch and near daily press conferences in the front yard. Bush didn't go there to escape his job, he went there to get out of DC.

I’m watching Obama addressing the American Legion now. They are sitting on their hands as Obama reads a long list of his “accomplishments.” His face is wonderful to watch as he moves from one dead silence to the next.

You mean that place in Crawford that he upgraded, on his own dime, to have everything he needed to fully function as well as in the Weat Wing? Where he built housing for support staff and Secret Service, again on his own dime? Where he could actually host meetings with foreign dignitaries in privacy rather than the hustle and bustle of DC, getting real work done?

Yeah, I remember the constant moan about that...
