A day like this is what makes this such an interesting and enjoyable experience. I joined in "1942" when just about every day was filled with depressing news. And I knew how it all turned out. People back in the day didn't have that advantage. Then a day like this comes along. Paris liberated and intact. The German army crumbling all over France. The Russians gobbling up an entire country. It must have been a feeling of incredible joy.
No wonder people were thinking this might be over by the end of the year.

In fact, the infectious spirit of optimism has spread to the war department. Munitions orders are being cut back. The U.S. Army, which is heavily dependent on artillery firepower, will rue this decision in a few months.

And these are good things to remember when we see the bad guys seemingly winning in this day and age. It may take longer than the few years like WWII, but at some point, the good guys are going to win. And that will be a joyous day.
