Now lawyers involved in 'Bless you' sneeze fight

Banning a student from saying “bless you” when another student sneezes and threatening punishment is against the law, warns a constitutional lawyer in a letter to school officials in Dyer County, Tennessee.

“It is unlawful for a school official to kick a student out of class for quietly blessing another student after she sneezes,” says the letter to Supt. Dwight Hedge from Jeremiah Dys, senior counsel for the nonprofit legal organization Liberty Institute.

Kendra Turner said she was suspended Aug. 18 by her teacher, Eva Kindle, at Dyer County High School, who said that kind of “godly speaking” is only for church.

“Within seven days, we require that Dyer County Public Schools issue a written and unequivocal public apology for unlawfully disciplining Ms. Turner for her protected religious speech,” Dys writes.

So now the kids need to say “bless you” until Eva’s head blows up and she goes away.

Do the girls’ teacher and principal have tenure or union backing? They both should be out looking for new jobs and the girl should have her private school and college tuition funded.

When will people wake up to the fact that the minority is leading the majority and worse, the majority is allowing them to do so. I say enough with this ridiculous stupidity. At one time this was a free country with a constitutional amendment that had something to do with “Freedom of Speech”. No doubt there is great need for a refresher course in what the U.S. Constitution means for EVERYONE here in America. Oh, I forgot, they don’t teach history in schools anymore due to ‘minority’ demands.

“Bless you” sneeze fight.

Another chink in the armor to eradicate Christianity in America. Meanwhile the silent church goes about its business...

It is time that people start classes in the Constitutional protection for citizens. When an event such as this happens, the student should be able to inform the teacher that such a statement by a student to a student can not be regulated by the government.

>>So now the kids need to say “bless you” until Eva’s head blows up and she goes away.

It will happen.

If a teacher has a pet peeve, or the students can find a way to anger a teacher, they’ll exploit it endlessly.

Saying “Bless you!” after a sneeze is not even very religious. In any case, it is not sectarian.

Should we also be banned from saying “Good-bye”? That is probably more religious, because it literally means “God be with you” (God by ye).

Ummmmm....liberals hate bigotry and bullying; their actions in this case fall into both categories.

This calls to mind the incident recounted by Roy Campbell in his autobiography “Light on a Dark Horse.” He tells of a young recruit in the leftist “Republican” forces in the Spanish Civil War, who was brought before his commander for violating the order that all religious greetings be replaced by “Salud” (health).

After a lecture admonishing the young soldier, and warning of punishment for future infractions, he waved him away, saying, “so let’s hear no more of this! Adios!”

Adios, of course, is short for “go with God.”

Well, to be technical, if she just said “Bless you”, then the teacher just assumed that she meant God Bless You, so the girl was punished for what the teacher thought. Maybe she meant Allah bless you, or Zeus bless you, or I Bless you, or Bless your little heart, that was a humdinger.

And of course, if she meant God Bless You that is protected speech or at least it used to be.

The teacher is an idiot, and shouldn’t even be allowed around children.

At work I share office space with a devout Christian woman. When she sneezes I say "bless you." When I sneeze she says it back to me. I can't remember hearing anyone else say it when someone sneezes.

If we have offended anyone around us no-one has had the stones to say anything to us. So I plan to continue to lead by example.

This is a rural, west TN county that is predominantly agricultural in character.

If there’s not hell to pay by riled up citizens at the next school board meeting I fear the metrosexualizing of America has reached a new height.
