‘Significant increase’ in terror chatter as haunting anniversary of 9/11 nears
The Washington Times ^ | 8-28-14 | Douglas Ernst

The U.S. intelligence community has observed a “significant increase” in chatter among terrorist organizations as the 13th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks nears.

“We’ve noticed a significant increase in chatter among Islamic terrorist organizations overseas both on the Internet and phone lines,” a U.S. government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Blaze.

While the intelligence community can not pinpoint whether or not an attack is planned, the official said that agencies “did see this kind of increase in chatter before the September 11 attacks.”

Deciphering chatter is more difficult than in previous years because of the rise of the Islamic State group, which threatens to drain al Qaeda of resources as it asserts dominance Iraq and Syria. Like al Qaeda, Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, has openly declared its intent to bring terror to American interests around the globe.

“The threat is two-fold because ISIS is in war with core al Qaeda,” former CIA case officer Brian Fairchild told The Blaze. “ISIS was kicked out of al Qaeda in February and they’ve been fighting each other internally for leadership. ISIS is winning right now. They have captured the imagination of young Muslims from around the world and depriving al Qaeda of its own fighters. Al Qaeda is split down the middle and now you have 9/11 [anniversary approaching]. It would be beneficial to both camps that on 9/11, some great attack in the United States takes place,” he added.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave...

Why do we have a military if we are not going to use it to destroy our enemy? We know that they want to kill us.

We know they are torturing and committing atrocities.

Do tens of thousands of Americans have to die before we act?

Just in case so they can say that they were doing everything they possibly could if it happens. CYA instead of CIA.

I think obama knows something is coming, and he’s ok with it because it will cause chaos. Recently he seems, ? Scared, angry, ? Worried..... Wherever he is on 9-11, will likely be safe.

I think it is all hype.

ISIS does not want us down their throats. They need to consolidate their power base.

Al Qaeda might try something. But not here. Paris and Berlin haven’t been hit big. It’s their turn.

For some reason everyone is all worked up, but I think it’s because Donnie got kicked off Big Brother. I cannot think of another good reason.

Except maybe to take our eyes of Russian paratroops taking vacation in Donetsk.

If we know there is “chatter” then we must know who is doing the chattering.

Why not round them as many of them as possible?

Good point. This is what I don’t understand.

For instance, when I heard recently that Israel bombed this pali leader’s house or that pali leader’s house, I thought, well if they knew where the heck they were, why weren’t they already bombed?

I guess it’s a low probability that ISIS will nuke a golf course, so he’s safe.

AQ could be more dangerous now than they have been in a while. They’ve been bumped out of first place by IS and may want to prove they’re still very relevant. There are probably plenty of their supporters scattered across the US.

Bombs are easy enough to make, and backpack bombs placed in soft targets (think shopping malls and such) in several cities, going off all at the same time, would get plenty of attention. It might not be as spectacular as crashing planes into buildings but would get the same results as far as throwing the country into turmoil.

That was before we shut down the NSA.
