How Democrats might goad the GOP into shutting down the government

President Obama is expected to announce by mid-September whether he will circumvent a recalcitrant Congress and press ahead with immigration reform on his own terms. “Executive action,” as it’s come to be known, could be as robust and consequential as providing de-facto earned amnesty for millions of undocumented immigrants now living in the shadows. That decision would reverberate widely. Democrats have usually been afraid that if Obama decided to showcase the apogee of presidential power, the counter-reaction among conservatives and revanchists would cost Democrats an intolerably high political price.

The problem with shutdowns is that they aren’t really shut-downs; they’re interruptions of services that are already poorly delivered; also, they’re paid vacations for government employees.
After a shutdown, piled up work is dealt with, slowly. There’s nothing accomplished, other than inefficiency and inconvenience.
Boehner doesn't have control of the House GOP caucus. If they want to have a rebellion, they will. And if they do, Boehner's only option is to bypass the Hastert rule and ask the democrats to pass it.
This freeper had a good idea.
All the House has to do is vote for appropriations. They should vote to fund the government at some level, preferably below the current level. No talk of shutdown,. Just pass a bill funding every department at some level and send it to the Senate. If Reid and the Senate vote no, it is the Senate shutting down the government, not the House. As long as no Republican gets off message and brags about provoking a shutdown they can win.
When Reid complains the bill doesnt have enough spending or whatever, Boehner and the House leadership can state they have sent the Senate a bill to fund the government and they hope the Senate wont play politics and hurt the people by shutting down the government. Turn the tables on Reid and Obama. Play the good guy and force Reid into a position where he votes to shut the government down. Tell the media and the people if Reid and the Senate want to propose more spending, they House will be happy to consider any supplemental appropriations bills the House a Democrats want toot ally introduce. For now the Senate must pass and the President must sign the bill already passed by the House in order to avoid a shutdown. Weve done our job to fund the government. We encourage the Senate and the president to do theirs.
The Constitution gives the House control of spending. If the GOP cant play a winning hand, the dont deserve to be in power. They must learn how to play the game with finesse.

Abdicating the power of the purse is a “failed policy” Mitch. It trashes the constitution and empowers executive dictators like Barry. The GOP is brain dead.
Good, time is on our side.
Oh? In the minds of liberals perhaps. But I'm guessing that is exactly WHY Republicans are poised to take over the Senate....because the shutdown focused attention on the truly evil Obamacare...
