In the US there is no “loser pays” like in other countries, it’s one of the biggest problems with our legal system. We also have judges who are unwilling (it seems) to throw out frivolous lawsuits.

But, I just don’t see how this woman has standing to sue a third party because her adult child was distressed or embarrassed in some way. No one is even claiming she was defamed or slandered. And clearly she brought this on herself, it’s not like she’s someone who had infamy thrust upon her.

I think your adult kid pretty much has to be dead before you have standing to sue for your own “loss” or “pain”. but I’m not a lawyer, so I don’t know for sure.

‘We also have judges who are unwilling (it seems) to throw out frivolous lawsuits.’

When you go to court there are always at least three lawyers: The plaintiffs’, the defendants’, and the Judge. The judges only real job is to make sure that the other two lawyers are paid!
