Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a threat to outgoing European Commission President Jose Manual Barroso that he could "take Kiev in two weeks" if he wanted, Italian media reports have said.

According to Italian newspaper La Repubblica, the Russian leader made the belligerent statement in a phone call with the outgoing EU leader, who is set to be replaced by Luxembourg's former prime minister Jean-Claude Juncker...

If they back the wrong horse? Breslau, Stettin, Danzig, Allenstein, Elbing, Tilsit, even Memel - all up for grabs.

If I'm not mistaken, those cities were purged of most of their German populations right after WW II. For the sake of argument, what would Germany do if it somehow regained those cities? About the only way Germany could control them is by martial law.

The same Russian empire that has a negative birth rate, a barely functioning navy and air force, still has pretty much peasant class boots. Yeah, okay. Russia can't project force anywhere but it's own backyard and it will only get worse for them. Probably to the point the Chinese will move on Siberia.

Have you booked your flight to Kiev yet?

So you support Russia, and instead of trying to sell us on submitting to them because they are strong, you are trying to get us to submit to them because they are too weak to capitalize on their conquests.

Still posting like a teen as well.

Are you trying to see how many logical fallacies you can fit into one post?

No, not so...I'm a realist Ansell...It isn't about sides...it's about seeing the reality of what is as opposed to what one wants it to be.

I've already explained my support for Cruz ‘as President’ should he run. That does not mean I support all he may say or do IN that run to office. I realize things will be stated that can and will change along the way...such is politics...you may have to bend some in order to gain substantially more in the long run...in fact Cruz spoke about this , I believe it was during his all nighter,...which I stayed up for not really intending to do so but he was certainly captivating in what he was putting out there.

I'm neither a conspiracy hunter looking for a bug under rocks.....I do however look at what is available to know and try to understand which direction things may go based on what makes sense from the evidence....sometimes none of it makes sense until you step back and glance at the whole picture for awhile.

It would be really nice if countries were free do choose as they desire to Govern themselves.....sounds great and looks good on paper...but the ‘reality’ is there are always going to be power hungry leaders, with agendas they are pushing on everyone else, which ultimately leads to division and strife within the countries, manufactured by outside influences or piggy backing those within...and sometimes both. And all interested parties do that.

Ukraine has always been a conflict nation within itself...as there are culture differences, clearly so, which play out and are playing out today....And where their is division there will always be strife, the measure of that will equally be in proportion to what and who the interested parties are within, and those from without who want to gain from that inner strife.

Sorry, but I’m with Cruz on this, not Obama, Russia needs to meet up with resistance and sanctions and Ukraine needs weapons.

I’m going to make this real easy for you. What strategic importance does directly confronting the Russians over Eastern Ukraine provide?

You didn’t read post 247, what “directly confronting” are you talking about?

Direct meaning boots on the ground, air strikes, clandestine ops, etc.

Indirect via sanctions and arms, fine, but open war is not going to happen.

As has been noted for centuries, America could only be conquered from within.

Well the senate passed the bill so armament etc will be on the way to Ukraine...did you not see that????

Sanctions ...well they do generally backfire and hurt everyone, especially the innocent. So I’m not big on sanctions that affect the man on the street...which is what’s coming.

Other then this “pressure” there’s nothing any can do but hope the negotiations between Poroshenko and the leaders in the East bring some degree of agreement....and since they’re Ukrainians fiercely bullheaded.

War with Russia and the US and or Nato just isn’t going to happen ansell......if that’s the sort of resistance you’re thinking of..... Nato went to sleep at the wheel years ago when it’s membership nations refused to cough up the funding for Nato they agreed on, and worse some of them even refused to send their troops when called on to do so........then they all cried out to the US when the big bad wolf looked like he might pay them a visit.

I watched that show unfold at the Atlantic Council and other areas where heads perculate.....over and over leaders and speakers whined ‘the US has got to do something’ and they didn’t much care what.... It was sickening!... Poland had the biggest mouth because they knew they were the big wheel that could get the grease first...and they did and have....and this on OUR backs.

All the Baltic nations began, and continue to squeal, knowing full well the revenues they will get in one form or another for the threat of the big bad wolf. American bases mean jobs and revenue to their countries, not to mention the security they refused to handle of their own accord. And guess who’s going to pay for it!

What more do they want? The last guy who did this wrote a book telling them exactly what he was planning to do, and they didn’t do anything about it until after he’d taken Austria and invaded Norway.

You just ramble on, long winded and inaccurate, even contradictory and shifting, a kind of sing song humming, it’s hard to know what your interest is, except that your participation suits Russia.

“then keep showing Jimmy Carter/Obama weakness,”

The time to “Stop” Putin was the election of 2008, but most especially the election of 2012.

The public was WARNED that Obama’s weakness was opening the door for adventurism, but anybody that dared to say so was laughed at, and ridiculed, Romney and Palin being just two of the many examples.

It's easy being a war hawk on geopolitical and strategic issues . . . behind a keyboard and it's not your ass on the line.

Because it's easier being a chickenhawk on geopolitical and strategic issues behind a keyboard and being an ass online. So, why don't you join the Peace Corps?

Like I told your other half, I’ve been there done that. It’s not a video game. People actually die so your better have a damn good reason to sacrifice sons and daughters. Nothing is stopping you now from directly fighting the Russians.

Listen, war hero . . . I’m saying we should support Ukraine, not go in there with guns blazing. If you don’t understand the difference, then you are beyond hope.

That is your argument for supporting your Carter/Obama foreign policy?

It doesn’t work on me.
