John Walker Lindh fought for the Taliban, and was tried for treason if I recall correctly. He got a 20,year priison sentence. Realistically we won’t revoke citizenship from these people. As far as I know Lindh will still be an American citizen when he gets out of prison.

I agree we should banish them and say they give up citizenship if they go fight for ISIS. But it won’t happen.

Lindh's salvation was the fact that he was already there when we showed up so he could argue that he didn't knowingly take up arms against the USA. The scumbags going to fight with ISIS can't make the same claim.

Causes of Citizenship Loss

U.S. citizens are subject to loss of citizenship if they perform certain acts voluntarily and with the intention to relinquish U.S. citizenship. These acts include:

1.Obtaining naturalization in a foreign state; Taking an oath, affirmation or other formal declaration to a foreign state or its political subdivisions.

2.Entering or serving in the armed forces of a foreign state engaged in hostilities against the U.S. or serving as a commissioned or non-commissioned officer in the armed forces of a foreign state.

3.Accepting employment with a foreign government if (a) one has the nationality of that foreign state or (b) a declaration of allegiance is required in accepting the position

4.Formally renouncing U.S. citizenship before a U.S. consular officer outside the United States

5.Formally renouncing U.S. citizenship within the U.S. (but only "in time of war")

6.Conviction for an act of treason.

I think this time may be different since so many other nations are suggesting the same and it gives our liberals a little cover.

We got our hands on Jihad Johnny though, right? We might not get our hands on a lot of these guys.

Revoking citizenship is a excellent alternative, which at least voids their passport and makes it impossible for them to waltz back into the USA and set up a jihad-shop here.

Treason trials would be better, but USA doesn't do "trials in abstentia" which means we'd have to catch them first.

I doubt we will catch many of them in Iraq.
