Attorney General Greg Abbott on Tuesday said he supports keeping the state-funded unit of prosecutors investigating public corruption that Gov. Rick Perry vetoed, a move that later led to a felony indictment.

Speaking after a campaign event, the Republican candidate for governor said he believed it was important for state lawmakers to have "a watchdog with prosecutorial authority."

"And I believe that when the sun sets on the next session, we will still have a Public Integrity Unit," Abbott said in a brief interview.

I am not against having a Texas Public Integrity Unit. I am against having any Travis County office in charge of it.

It seems like Abbott thinks they should be in charge.

It seems very wrong to me to allow the voters of one very liberal county to elect people that oversee officials elected by the entire state. I am surprised that power is not abused more than it is.

I know. I didn’t say they don’t abuse it often, just that I am surprised they don’t do it more.

Look at the source of the report.

Abbott did not indicate any support for the person currwntly in charge of the public integrity unit.

He didn’t offer any criticism, either. I never realized he is a major squish.

You only know what was reported, which may not be all the facts about what Abbott said.

Abbott merely said there should be a public integrity unit; nothing more. Can you imagine the ads if he said anything at all that could be twisted to imply he is anti-integrity?

"He made a career of filing bogus charges against Republicans"

How many can you name? And don't include Perry because he wasn't investigated/indicted by Earle, Lehmbert, or Travis County DA office. You say Hutchinson/DeLay were bogus but the reality is those cases revolved around evidence that a judge(s) dis-allowed. If the men that worked for Delay were convicted, do you honestly think Delay's defense that he didn't know anything about it was true?

How many democrats can you name? What about Speaker Gib Lewis or AG Jim Mattox? What about the time Earle prosecuted himself? If a state like Texas is dominated by a particular party, it stands to reason those of the dominant party will be the ones corrupted and prosecuted. When the dems controlled the govt, dems were investigated and prosecuted.

What about the 345 cases that the Travis county PIU prosecuted in 2013? How many of those were bogus? How much fine money did the state get out of this? What about the insurance fraud cases and fuel tax fraud cases?

Dallas County has a PIU as do other counties, but most counties are smaller and don't have the money. Even Travis county depends on state funding(or used to). Travis County is the seat of the state govt, that is where corruption occurs.

Why should locally elected democRAT hacks like Ronnie Earle and Rosemary Lehmberg have a special right to go after people the rest of Texas elected? I did not vote for them and I believe they have shown themselves to be irresponsible with the power they wield. The appearance of impropriety is enough of a reason to move that power to another office controlled by somebody who is elected by all Texans. The article at the link below explains why Anne Richard’s boy, Ronnie Earle went after Anne Richard’s political enemy, Maddox.

You give me a link to a kook web site that links to another kook web site. I don't think you know much about it, so let me help you.

Anne Richards was a locally elected official in the 70s. Her husband David Richards knew Earle a lot better than Anne did.

Anne Richards(treasurer) and Jim Maddox(AG) were elected in the same election, 1982. They weren't adversaries. But, David Richards was hired by Maddox and would detest Earle because Earle subpoenaed David Richards when he prosecuted Maddox in "83. There was bad blood between Anne Richards and Earle because of this.

After Anne Richards became governor, Lloyd Bentson left his senate seat to work in Clintons cabinet. Earle lobbied Richards for the appointment to Bentson's senate seat but she refused to give it to him.

KBH used that fact as spin after Earle indicted her, saying Earle was still mad because Richards wouldn't appoint him to the Senate so Earle was taking it out on her(KBH).

You can go ahead and believe that Earle and Lehmberg are selfless public servants as pure as the driven snow. I believe Earle was a slimy hack and so is the hypocritical drunk Lehmberg. Your assertions still do not answer why should locally elected democRAT hacks like Ronnie Earle and Rosemary Lehmberg have a special right to go after people the rest of Texas elected? The rest of Texas does not get a chance to vote them out, which they would in a heartbeat. I know the Austin libs love this arrangement because it gives them power way out of proportion to the elections they win. I cannot understand why anybody who is not a liberal would be good with it and defend it.

Probably wasn’t spin. Earle was scum.
