To: ROCKLOBSTER
There are Privacy Laws that restrict what you can be asked by a government employee. I found this a few years ago and keep a copy printed up for those 'suprise' visits.

Public Servant’s Questionnaire

Basically, it ties them up in bureaucratic knots by making them comply with the laws that protect US. They usually get frustrated to the point they just leave, but the added bonus is you have ALL their info in the event they become total jerks.
