I figure because Levant is more in line with the Muslim way of talking.
ISIS is more western sounding.
Calling it ISIL is implicit support of muslim dominion over what is now Israel, with all the slaughter and slavery that implies.
I don’t think the Guy who gave Israel to the Jews in perpetuity is going to like that.
