The Chevrolet Volt range-extended electric car, meanwhile, logged sales of 2,511, its best performance since August 2013. The deliveries increased its year-to-date total to 13,146.

A total of 67,698 Volts have been sold in the U.S. since the December 2010 introduction of the world's highest-production series hybrid vehicle.

One thing we can count on - media reporting on the Volt will always be misleading. The title looks encouraging - "Best in 12 months".

The hard facts:

Year to year August sales are down sharply, from 3,351 to 2,511....or 25%.

Year to date sales are down from 14,994 to 13,146...or 12%.

Maybe the article should be a little less upbeat.

And this sentence grabbed my attention: "A total of 67,698 Volts have been sold in the U.S. since the December 2010 introduction of the world's highest-production series hybrid vehicle."

Ok, I haven't checked, but I think the Prius has sold a gazillion more than that...but the Volt is on top, huh?

And electric car sales will absolutely crater when the “road tax per mile” laws are enacted.

The software and hardware is already installed on these vehicles, just waiting for legislation.

When GM isn’t hyping the Volt the green media is.

What I'd like to know is how many were sold to private owners versus how many to businesses and corporations that are getting a kickback from the fed gov for buying ‘em.

10,000 was their forecast for the first full year of sales...they missed that by over 20%.

I don’t know what GM’s forecast was for the following years...but Barry Obama in 2008 thought we would have a million all electric and plug ins on the road by 2015.

That fell short.

GM is too busy hyping the ‘all new’ 2016 Volt.

The Pontiac Aztec had nearly double the Volt sales in its ill-fated 5 year run...and nobody in their right mind would have thought about an ‘all new’ model.

But GM has to persist with the Volt, to please Uncle Sugar.

Don’t forget the government purchased Volts. One example:

Our overlords won’t tel us how many the government has bought though.

I think compliance cars meet the requirements of a few states like California, which require a certain percentage of sales to meet some wacky green requirement.

3 people at my office got Leaf’s in August.

Nissan is basically paying you to drive it: $208/per month with nothing down and free charging for 2 years.

3 years from now, Nissan will lose $15K on EVERY leaf it sold in 2014.

If you own Nissan stock, get out, NOW!!!!

I’m in S. CA. See Volts every day, but where I live there are even more Teslas.

In 2015 there will be a new Volt design coming out.
