While some law enforcement agencies are snatching up free military surplus vehicles, Orlando police plan to spend $230,000 for a new armored personnel carrier for the department's SWAT unit.
It's not the Orlando Police Department's first armored vehicle

The ones they used in Ferguson, were they from Ferguson, are neighboring towns????
They will either be used to stop welfare benefit riots or patriot riots or both.....
Count on it...
Since the Ferguson police were relieved early on by Governor Nixon, I assume they belonged to the State Police or another department.
What Good Can a Handgun Do Against An Army?

I understand. It is an 8-year-old model. Probably does not have bluetooth and usb ports.
A Jack Daniel bottle once emptied of whiskey and filled with gasoline can defeat these armored vehicles. Bluetooth enabled or not.
What do they think a major SHTF scenario here is going to look like after a few weeks? Especially once they run out of gas or ammo...
“A Jack Daniel bottle once emptied of whiskey and filled with gasoline can defeat these armored vehicles.”
Consider the culture where the vehicle may be deployed if EBT cards ever fail - now ask yourself whether an empty bottle of ‘Mad Dog’ could substitute?
Apparently I’m not allowed to see that article.
Even better is ammonia. Throw the ammonia-filled bottles on top of the vehicle so it wafts into the ventilation system. After the overconfident occupants of the vehicle vacate it you'll need to air it out, but then you'll be the proud owner of an armored vehicle.
Are they planning to invade Tampa?
Lemon scented I hope.
I wonder if their AC is good to handle combustible liquid coatings?

Michelob bottles are thin and fragile.
Don't ask me about field testing the relative strength of beer and whiskey bottles.... It didn't get in the papers though, and I'm not going into it here. ;)

In addition, Orlando draws millions of international visitors every year, with Disney World, Universal Studios, and Sea World being major potential terrorist targets. Although little discussed, al Queda sympathizers in the Orlando area are known to have assisted in the 9/11 plot. That danger persists in that only weeks ago, local Muslims staged a march in support of Hamas and against Israel.
Finally, Orlando is vulnerable to hurricanes due to its many large oak trees. I have twice been in Orlando when major hurricanes hit. I can readily see the value of an armored vehicle available for emergency services and able to plow through downed trees and power lines in the roadway.
Ummm.... maybe tanks can do that stuff and not throw a tread. But APCs? I'd trust a 6 banger 1967 Ford Falcon for getting me around before I'd trust an APC. At least with a chain and a hitch, you can move the trees (maybe), and the Falcon had better ground clearance than most people realized, if they didn't have weak springs and shocks.
