“courage”? It takes courage to strike because you want more money? I don’t see that as courage. I see people that want everyone else to pay them more because they don’t have any qualifications to do anything else.

There might not be robots yet capable of handling tasks but touch screens are certainly available and I do expect to see more of them show up everywhere. Could certainly get rid of anyone taking an order, accepting payment or delivering product.

Our local grocery stores never have more than one or two check out places manned by a real person but lots of self-check out areas. My bank has only one attended drive through area but two with do it yourself deposit machines. I would think somewhere along the line some of these people striking for more money would take a look at what has happened in other industries.

We live in a society where people are too stupid and unmotivated to learn how to scan a barcode into a machine,...”

Excuse me! With the price I pay for groceries I want someone else to bag them, put them in my cart and put them in the trunk of my car. I also would like to see the return of the gas stations which have attendants who not only pump my gas but also check my oil, the air in my tires and wash my windows. And no I’m not a liberal or a snob. I just happen to appreciate a little help.

you bring up a good point. It is no longer a futuristic discussion. In just the last few years we have seen lots of minimum wage losses at places like HD, Walmart, Sam’s due to automation. It’s already happening.

These strikers are just disposable pawns in the continued march towards greater socialism.

Trumpka should be embarrassed....the AFL - CIO needed entry level fast food workers as fooder for his thug union...

Basically exploiting them to continue to line is own pockets...

At the end of the day....fast food will automate....shed lots of non skilled workers and china will be happy to build all those new touch screen menu boards to order...

Pretty damn hard to unionize a touch screen and maybe Trumpka can visit china and try to unionize those folks...lol

Hey Richard, let’s say you get your $15 and hour and I’m working at some fast food place making $15 an hour. But I’m pretty sharp, bust my ass and over two years I manage to get raises to $17 an hour.

Then the minimum wage is raised to $17 an hour. Now rookies are making the same as me. My two years of busting my ass is for naught.

Have you ever thought about this Richard?

And what about the business owner (without whom your union would cease to exist overnight)? Jumping a person who is making, say, $8 per hour to making $15 an hour does not make that employee worth almost 100% more than they were.

The “minimum wage” is 100% artificial and is not based in economic reality.

Richard Trumka is 49 and I suspect has never had a minimum wage job. In 1995, he was making $165,000 as secretary-treasurer to his now $293,750

The guy’s job probably was / is cracking heads. The money he makes publicly is not what he makes privately.

Anyone here making $165,000 at 30 years old and not an engineer/doctor? He certainly was not getting minimum wage.
