Only God knows when the last hour is. But it doesn’t hurt to be ready.
If I were to compare news headlines, I would judge that things were a lot worse in 1863, 1932 and early 1942 than they are today.
In my lifetime, things were worse when Jimmy Carter’s rescue attempt of the hostages in Iran failed. Lines to get gas, horrible inflation and high unemployment and the start of modern Islamic radicalism.
Yet we are still here.
I agree that 1863 WAS a similar time; the moral quality of the nation had ebbed to tremendous low.
The economy always has ups and downs. I am not talking mere economics here. I am talking morality.
I think the moral compass is completely off the original setting. Not quite 180, but maybe 170 or 160.
Consider this nation (by which I mean the government or a significant percentage of the population—certainly not every individual) now applauds dependency upon government, punishes achievement, enables infanticide, and celebrates perversion. In some quarters, this behavior and the dark spirituality that enables it is endorsed by so-called Christians and Christian churches.
1863 indeed.
