“They’re based in southern California, which is probably why they’re all over the state.”

They started in southern California, too.

Carl Karcher’s son was the priest, at a parish in my SoCal town.

I have had What-a-burger... in Jacksonville, TX and Midland, TX. Very good burgers and I enjoyed that the standard burger served "all the way" does not include ketchup. Mustard belongs on hamburgers, and they get that in Texas. Ketchup is for kids.

This will be very odd to mention, but What-A-Burger has really good salads... nice mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, shredded cheese... I would get the side salads with no dressing and just eat it with my fingers as a snack.

Which probably explains why they're based there!

:^)

I worked at a CJ's for a short time back in the late 70's, and I remember the checks always had a corporate address in Anaheim, or somewhere nearby.

Yes, but much of it’s components were derived from various American weapons, such as the M1 Carbine.

Started in Los Angeles with a push cart, or booth. First drive-thru location in Anaheim if I recall.

In the 60s it was on the circuit of cruising drive-thrus along with Bob’s in Whittier, Harvey’s in Downey, I think.

Probably several others. We cruised back and forth between Bob’s in Whittier, and McDonalds in La Habra, both on Whittier Blvd.
