I believe it has been traditional as a service member to get a tattoo acknowledging the branch of service, but these days the tendency is to have "sleeves" with dozens of colorful tattoos that will all look like some kind of skin disorder in 10 years.

Most of the people who have multiple tattoos all over their body are idiots who are following the latest fad.

My father, who was career Navy, never had a tattoo. I’m with him on the subject.
