One thing I wonder about is the British military has always had a lot of Scots in it. I think the main reason is the military was the only way to find a job for many young men from Scotland.

Will they still be able to join or will they have to join only a Scottish military?

I wonder if the Rotterham scandal perpetuated by London’s multi-culti elite has something to do with that.

I think the Britsh Armed Forces accepts recruits from any Commonwealth Member. So it’s not out of the question, but I’m sure that is one of the many small matters that would have to be ironed out. A larger matter to many US observers is probably the what happens to the Royal Scottish Regiment. A much bigger issue to the UK is where do they put their Trdent nuke force.

I think is great the Scots have a choice. I respect that it’s in their hands now. I think it would be a great moment in British History if after 308 years, they decided, as a country, to remain in the United Kingdom. I’m watching with eager anticipation.

I have a feeling in my bones that the three main parties will promise them devo-max, and this will swing the vote decisively to ‘no’. This is what the Scots really wanted anyway.

Of course, it would make the urgency of resolving the West Lothian Question stronger than ever. Or else English resentment will lead to more mutual emnity between the peoples of this island.

I hope there will be a Royal Commision set up to federalise the UK and resolve these issues once and for all.

If there was a three option poll, devolution max would take the air out of the independence sails, and that's on the table. They can have that to preserve the UK.

“English autonomy” is a practical problem. Theoretically, sure why can't the “English Majority” have the same autonomy as Scotland. As a practical matter, it's more an issue of Labour vs Tory...and that cuts against any practical solution short dissolving the Union, which would be worse for everyone, but would give England paper Independence, and give the Tories, I'm guessing here, a 60/40 edge go the next 5 years, until in fighting knocks them Back to 50% against a large Labour and smaller UKIP minority?

“I can tell you what the contingency plan is: To contest the legality of their own referendum.”

Most likely go to Brussels to have the World Court invalidate the result as “impinging on the sovereignty” of the UK...and he’ll likely get his way.

Frankly, I think if Cameron has f***ed this up and ends up presiding over the destruction of the Union, the Tories are finished. How could a party that ended up losing Scotland ever be taken seriously ever again? I predict UKIP support will rocket as a result. The shockwaves will lead to a complete revolution against the political establishment in London.

People might say this will be great for us, but I will be extremely sad about the whole situation. UKIP will be, by its very nature, extremely robust about defending the rUK’s national interest at the expense of iScotland, and you will be able to hear the howls of outrage at ‘English’ bullying and intransigence as far south as Birmingham when we play hanrball in the negotiations with a country that does 70% of its trade with us vs 10% the other way. When Salmond’s absurd promises fail to materialise, much of the blame will be focused on us, and for our part, many of us will bear a grudge against Scotland for betraying the Union in what will be perceived as a selfish oil grab. Any government that is seen as too soft on Scotland in the negotiations will be committing political suicide.

Relations between England and Scotland will be at their lowest ebb since 1746, and all because the Scots will have lapped up Salmond’s bullshit like it was chocolate ice cream.

The referendum result will be accepted by the UK government if it is a ‘yes’ we aren’t some mickey mouse dictatorship whatever else we are. We will all just have to make the best of it.

They fucked it up from the start with their threats. No Dr Who, no strictly come dancing, no sharing the pound, the seas will boil and give up the dead, blah blah blah.
The more they threaten Scotland the more we will dig our heels in as we are stubborn bunch.

Does Britishness mean nothing to you? After all these years of working together for the common good of all the peoples of Great Britain and for the world by building the industrial revolution, spreading the enlightenment using Scottish thought and English weight, Parliamentary democracy and standing side by side together to defeat Fascism.

Destroying a 307 year old union forever because of the current state of Westminster politics instead of staying with us helping to fix it as we have worked together to solve many of the problems we have faced in the past.

Britishness whatever that is means nothing to me.
Off to the church tonight to meet Nicola Sturgeon, Charlie Reid, one of the Proclaimers and some other guy I’ve never heard of.
Yes campaign still out knocking on doors, more YES posters appearing in windows and still nothing from Better Together apart from one wee leaflet in June.

In Ukraine they bomb their own cities back into compliance. Just saying.

In a response to a follow-up question, Cameron admitted that there were no contingency plans drawn up for American independence as well.

America will not make it on it’s own without the pound, everyone knows that.

What are they kicking about??? The departure of Scotland will enable England to reassert its own national identity--an identity that has been totally subsumed in Britishness for over four hundred years. No more UK! England instead! (Now if they just knew what to do with Northern Ireland.)

Even Chaim Ben Pesach of Jewish Task Force is apparently supporting the (left wing) Scottish nationalists. My heart is broken.

Except this time it’ll be the Scots building a wall to keep the Jamaicans, Pakistanis, and British refugees from the English Caliphate from flooding into Scotland!

Wrong! Scotland is much more left wing and multicultural than England. Contemporary Scottish nationalism is leftist.
