Ray Rice likely to keep $25 million

Football's Ray Rice will probably get to keep about $25 million that he's been paid, even after he was cut by the Baltimore Ravens in the wake of domestic abuse revelations

snip ... Rice signed a 5-year, $35 million deal in 2012, $15 million of which was a signing bonus. He got another $7 million bonus in 2013, and also collected $3 million in salary over the first two years of the contract.

But almost none of that $25 million can be clawed back by the Ravens or the NFL, according to Mike Ginnitti, managing editor of Spotrac, a Web site which tracks professional sports contracts.

Rice probably will lose the $9.5 million in salary that he would have received for this year through the end of 2016.

And football layers have their salary paid weekly. So if you are getting $16 million in “salary” you’d get a million dollar check every week.

They also get practice pay. And workout pay.

He would get all that through today (although he was suspended for the first two weeks.)

So, if his lawyer was not a complete fool, he will get that bonus money. And, after he goes to counseling and does community service he will come back in two years and make another 20 million.

Yeah, but his agent gets ten percent, the government gets 45 percent, the state gets a chunk. So, he nets about 30% of the gross. Total, about $8 mm. He could live ok on that, if he was careful. 5% a year is about $400k. He should be able to do that forever. That would be more than enough for most people.

I’d be amazed if he has any $ - or a wife - a year from now.

I thought alot more conservatives would be better than this. The fact is that this guy committed a terrible act. But this society lives in a giant glass house that pretends that it's all about justice and all it really cares about is destroying people because they make more money, their a difference race, or some other bs. We need to focus on forgiveness. As we were told once a long time ago, “fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.” Give people a chance because I guarantee you we have all done something just as bad if not worse than Ray Rice.

Is Ray Rice the same guy who killed that kid in Atlanta?

I think she married him too late; he’ll keep most of what he has. She’s only entitled to half of what they make together.

The most disgusting part of this is how light the original penalty was. When they were interviewing Rutgers students (Rice’s alma mater), one black girl said he wasn;t being punished for what he did on the tape - he was being punished because the public saw the tape. She was right.

This is a tough one, pitting victim against victim./s

It’s money already paid out. Not even sure why this is a story, of course he keeps it, just like you’d keep your paychecks to date if you got fired.
