There has always been a small group of Scottish nationalists, I think Moscow kept them going in the 20th century. What’s behind the sudden surge I do not know. A Scottish breakaway will have far reaching consequences.

Great stuff from the political news junkie point of view. I been following this historic development for almost a year.

I am surprised how little this issue has been posted about, especially considering the abundant stories (even of the most mundane content) that gets posted regularly about Europe/EU. But then again all things considered... maybe not so surprising - LoL!

Well, I’m glad England isn’t going all George Cromwell on the lads.
A fair chunk of the early Scottish migrants settled in the south and midatlantic (rebel) states. Many have wanted independence from centralized government for a long time.

The best way to punish someone is to give them what they want.

Most of the socialists in the UK are in Scotland. Cut them loose. See how they do without someone else’s money to spend.

If socialists are pushing for a free Scotland, it's not a free Scotland they want at all, they want a weakened England.

Left out number 6. Scottish independence will recreate a secession movement in Acirema.

There’s something ironic — and maybe even silly — about the U.S. expressing any kind of concern over a movement for independence from Britain, no? LOL.

If my knowledge of Scottish history serves, they have wanted “secession” from England for quite a long time, particularly the Highlanders.
Our “secession” from England was wrought with concern over how we would survive, if we would become “socialist” (read: Whiskey Rebellion) and such. I think we did pretty well (until 2008) so good on the Scots.
Every freedom-loving peoples should be for independence and
self-determination...we used to be.....

There’s no doubt that the newly independent Scotland will be anti-American and anti-Israel. However, England will finally get to be England again (instead of “Britain”) and I’m sure we’ll get along much better with them. Plus us Anglo-Saxons will finally have something every other people on earth has always had: an ancestral homeland.

“Special Relationship”

That phrase is capitalized like it is some king of homosexual thing.

We are Americans that believe in self rule, so why wouldn’t we support anyone wanting self rule for any reason?

"The United States should be nervous about the Scottish independence referendum"

Say the notorious autocrat bankers in The City through The London Telegraph.

Scots are no more socialist than the English. Even the Tories are radical socialists including farm interests. Many in Scotland are building to be more self-sufficient and are contributing to open source equipment plans for work and freedom. They want to get out of debt. Also a reminder that the U.K. is a member of the E.U. despite the obfuscations about that.

England wants to keep taking revenues from Scotland’s North Sea oil. For generations, England has made many deals with terrorist enemies for oil and enriched them to help them buy influence over us, the people of western nations.

While I am certainly concerned about it, the only recourse of a friend and a gentleman in these circumstances is to shut up and be respectful. They’ve been at this longer than we have.

Leave it to a Brit to oppose a country seeking freedom. They've opposed every single one so far, this is no surprise.

And no, it really won't have "long lasting" consequences.

It will finish off the UK, and end the vanishing power of Britain.

Expect similar moves here in the south west as the invaders push to consolidate their gains.
