So did Lincoln require a religious oath or force soldiers to attend services? If Lincoln wanted soldiers to have Sunday off that is fine. Congress takes off Sundays but people are free to do what they want on that day off.

You didn't read the general order, did you?

Yes, he forced them to attend services.

The one who is the better shot.

Accuracy in shooting is a wonderful characteristic in a soldier, but I will point out that the most important characteristic is that he is on your side.

Enemy soldiers may shoot very well, but that does not help you at all.

His past veracity is never going to come up. It’s irrelevant, unless he can be shown to have lied in a criminal way—i.e., to be an actual perjurer.

The case will be decided on the basis of religious freedom, and his case is airtight, because religious liberty protects his option to be an atheist.

The bottom line is that yes, he will win the case, but the question is at what cost? A win should be more precious if it comes at great cost. One would hope that this win will be very precious to this joker!

An illustration: About 20-25 years ago, a Vancouver Sikh was accepted into the RCMP Academy. After passing, he decided that his religion required him to wear a turban rather than the RCMP Stetson. It went to court and he won. His first assignment was in the NWT. (This is not unusual as newly minted Mounties are posted far from home and usually in the North.) What he discovered was that the NWT First Nations had no respect for a Mountie who wore a turban, rather than a Stetson. He was beaten by many First Nations people and when he would call for backup, unfortunately somehow, his fellow Mounties were rarely able to respond quickly. Eventually, he quit the Mounties and joined the Vancouver Police Service. Funny thing though, he was seen in public on occasion, not wearing his turban, the one that prevented him from wearing a Stetson!

That atheist in the USAF, may find ‘karma’, as he may call it, is not a nice thing. As for me, I know that God will not be mocked.

I LOVE IT.

Make the Dems decide whether to support their ATHEIST BASE, or to support the country.

willing to bet that the Constitution guarantees everyone “a jury of his peers”?

Right, ever one knows it’s “a jury of his peeps...”.

My memory says there’s already a provision in regulation for this kind of thing.

Any article that gets it info from " Monica Miller, an attorney for the American Humanist Association, which has taken up the service member's case." is pure bullsh#t. The Airman is not require to repeat "so help me God".

Humanist Association is the modern day communists who gain power by eliminating God. Hell, I am all for sending them to Northern Iraq and let them tell the Mussies that Allah is a fictitious being and needs to be eliminated.

"So would you apply a religious test to other government positions? The Constitution explicitly prohibits a religious test for gov’t offices and it is clear the spirit of the law would apply to members of the military."

No it doesn't. The Constitution guarantees freedom of religion. It is the first right guaranteed in the first Amendment. The Constitution was written and inspired by the written word and principles of the Judeo/Christian God. If people do not like our Constitution or the God who's principles this nation was founded on then you all are free to leave. Trying to insure that this nation become like all the third world nations that are founded on either secular principles or the principles of false gods (satan's principles) is bs. We have been the greatest nation on earth for over a century because of our Christian values NOT despite them. If a non-believing government employee cannot insure my freedom to worship the God of my choice then he/she needs to be removed from office posthaste. This is why every oath of office until recently has always insisted that people put their hands on the bible and say at the end of whichever oath they are taking, "So help me God."

I know atheists get all butt hurt and all when the reality of the situation is exposed to them but know this, if God haters have their way this country is finished as evidenced by their continued whining and successes in removing God from public debate.
Look around. Our economy is tanking. Our planet is convulsing. Our souls are empty and hatred permeates every aspect of our culture.

I agree with you about swearing an oath to anyone anywhere. From my perspective a "promise" is swearing an oath and promises are so often broken but... our military traditionally required us to swear an oath in large part BECAUSE of these beliefs taught to us in our churches. The powers that be in the military wanted people serving that knew the importance of the task they were/are being asked to do and they knew that having people "swear an oath" would weed out those that care more about their own well-being than the well-being of their comrades and our nation. The type of people that traditionally served in our military have been good, upstanding, honorable men and women. The kind of solders willing to put everything they have and believe on the line to protect their family, country and people from our God hating enemies. Remember. The United States is the ONLY "Christian" nation on the planet. All nations hate us and it is because of our Christian God.

There is scripture in the Old Testament talking about Gideon and a decision he was confronted with before going into battle. He did not know how to pick which men he should take into battle and God instructed him,

And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I say unto thee, This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I say unto thee, This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go.

So he brought down the people unto the water: and the LORD said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink.

And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water.

And the LORD said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.

So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel every man unto his tent, and retained those three hundred men: and the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley. (Judges 7:4-8 KJV)

The reason God did not take those that got down on both knees or on their bellies to drink but instead took those that scooped up water with their hands was because God knew that those scooping up water with their hands were the ones staying alert and watching for the safety of all the people. Conversely those lying on their bellies or kneeling down were more about themselves than the others.

Taking an oath is a BIG deal in the eyes of God and it used to be a BIG deal with the people of this country. Having people SWEARING to uphold and protect the Constitution of the United States "So help me God" is an oath where those taking it are willing to lie down their lives and eternal souls to protect the principles laid down in the Constitution and the people living by it or "let God strike" them dead.
Now it is more accepted to be a self-centered flake than to put one's eternal soul in jeopardy for our fellow countrymen.

I praise God Jesus of Nazareth wasn't such a person.
