So would you apply a religious test to other government positions? The Constitution explicitly prohibits a religious test for gov’t offices and it is clear the spirit of the law would apply to members of the military.

So did Lincoln require a religious oath or force soldiers to attend services? If Lincoln wanted soldiers to have Sunday off that is fine. Congress takes off Sundays but people are free to do what they want on that day off.
