Family meal at a colletive farm in Ukraine
I doubt it was better in 1947.

Our son Vanya was born in the Russian Far East in 1992. The absolute, unbelievable, horrifying peak year of the Russian Abortion Holocaust.

FTA: In the seventeen years between 1992 and 2009, the Russian population declined by almost seven million people, or nearly 5 percent—a rate of loss unheard of in Europe since World War II. Moreover, much of this appears to be caused by rising mortality. By the mid-1990s, the average St. Petersburg man lived for seven fewer years than he did at the end of the Communist period; in Moscow, the dip was even greater, with death coming nearly eight years sooner.

Go on YouTube or LiveLeak and watch the thousands of videos of crazy Russian drivers and Russians doing amazingly STUPID things like the man trying to steal an antenna from a 10-story building and then falling to his death.

All I can think of is that maybe M. Night Shyamalan was perhaps inspired by the Russians when he wrote ‘The Happening’. A movie where people are compulsively driven to kill themselves.

Too many Americans harshly judge the Russians, but fail to see that their own dependence on Social Security and Medicare parallel that of the Soviet Union. FDR was a Socialist, and he succeeded in putting Millions on the government rolls.

I think an economic collapse is coming, soon. It will start in the Stock Market, and the Fed will not be able to help. The US will turn into a 3rd World nation overnight.

“People in Russia were dying suddenly and violently...”

Get on YouTube and search on ‘driving in Russia,’ it’s a wonder anyone’s still alive in that country.

This is actually an interesting article, thank you. I am a student of Russia, having family that emigrated from there.

While this quote is in your text: "Family meal at a colletive farm in Ukraine. I doubt it was better in 1947." I would point out that in terms of spirit, it was better in 1947.

The poverty of spirit totally outweighs the poverty of finance. Look at America. We have plenty, but our poverty of spirit nearly crushes us.

Lack of hope?

Or lack of God and the good news of Jesus?

They didn’t seem to have this issue in the 1800s. But They still had religion then. The soviets did all they could to kill it off. Putin may actually be encouraging its revival to help counteract this hope issue. Not that I’m a fan of Putin but he has been supportive at least in speeches of the Orthodox Church.

An outstanding read! Thanks!! I have seen the symptoms and outward results, but never could derive one plausible reason for it all. It truly makes good sense. But how sad!

Yowza, Vladimir P, with all the communist social psychology you would think motivation would be easy by now. Money and time off to have children?

Find out why certain people aren’t dying. Find out what is keeping them motivated. Then make it a national policy, like our school lunch policy. You might have a problem if those who are living longer are people of faith. The joy of the Lord is my strength.

Good article. I’ve always had a thing for Siberia for some reason. Must be something in my genes. Half Hungarian. Could have had relatives there, I guess.

Well, after reading it carefully, I have to admit that this piece is actually makes sense.
I thought a lot on this subject by myself and somehow had similar conclusions, though in not as refined form.
The lesson is however that the processes they are talking about aren’t limited to Russia and the Russians.
There are numerous misfortunes and failed practices in a row which leads to a broken society.
It seems like no one is going to learn from it and not only some people are actively obstructing Russian attempts to disengage from this row, they are actively brings these practices elsewhere.

This phenomenon and those related are the problem Putin has set about to remedy. He has a country that is in serious decline and apparently has no desire to reverse the trend.

He can sell his natural resources to fund his government but he still faces the problem of people with little or nothing to do. Their production is almost nothing.

Those here poo poo the notion citing rockets and jets. Both are weapon related. His defense industry is about all he has. Putin Courts Assad because Syria is a customer and paying weapons customers are few and far between.

I don’t fear Putin because he lacks the ability to project

Gentics...breeding...Russia killed off most of the Russians with intelligence and morals in last 200 years; ... bullets, gulags, mass graves. Now they are left with such a high percentage of Neanderthals who are only happy fighting, killing, looting, invading, raping and being drunk. Look at who they are letting run their country, these thugs Putin and gang are robbing the Russian people blind, locking up or disappearing any who speak up, killing the Russian people and still little protest. Talk about stupid cattle being herded to the slaughter house. !
