A group of small town teachers have a big idea called The Sleeve. It's a device that slips over the closer-arm of a door to prevent the door from being opened from the outside. The idea is to buy time for teachers and students during a school shooting.

Well then I stand behind my “cynical marketing ploy” comment and add “tacky as hell!”

How unbelievably stupid!

Are our educated idiots (liberal teachers) aware that most classroom doors have glass windows in them? Have they ever noticed that?

Gee! All that the killer would have to do is break the window and start firing through the large hole in the door.

Now, what if the teacher had a gun and used it to protect the children and themselves instead of trying to place this “thing” on the door apparatus? I don’t think there would be any question of the outcome.

In today’s education industry, the number of dollars spent is the measure of success, not the number of students who learn to read, write, or cipher.

Hubba-Hubba. Nothin' like an armed lady ...

M1 Carbine wouldn't be my first choice for arming teachers ... but it's certainly the right general idea.

I find that fact that he is being mocked for a solution interesting

You have been around here long enough to know mocking is a FReeper tradition. The cure for cancer would be mocked by some.

Had to look that up! But perhaps I should have explained. A.L.I.C.E. Is a program to deal with an active threat to counter the failed “hide-in-place” that schools and other institutions used prior to the mass slaughters of recent years. I just realized that a similar evolution of tactics occurred after the 9-11 hijackings—before: cooperate with the hijackers and you’ll likely live—after: if we’re going to die anyway we might as well fight back.

ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate. When a threat is discovered, it is announced to the whole school and law enforcement. The school is locked down. The locations of the threats are broadcast to the entire building. If the threat is close to you prepare to do what you can to thwart his plans. It may include throwing books chairs or desks—if you are going to die anyway, why not? If the threat is distant, evacuate to a distant location, hopefully out of sight of any attacker.

Our local sheriff’s office provided the training. They assured us that their tactics have changed as well. Instead of waiting outside for SWAT teams to arrive, they will engage the shooter. The school I substitute at is in a rural location. We figure it will likely take 15 to 20 minutes for law enforcement to arrive if something bad were to happen.

Unlike most new “ideas” in education, I like this one.

In today’s Public Schools, half the Students as well as the Unionized Teachers would be wearing one. Unfortunately, there are only four Corners in each Classroom.

The local paper interviewed People about some idiotic Obama Proclamation, can’t remember which one.

One of the People interviewed was a Sixth Grade Teacher. Part of her response included blaming the “Do Nothing Republican House” for the problems at hand.

These are the uninformed Idiots teaching our Children.
