Landings at Normandy were in fairly close proximity to Britain. Where would the Allies have found either the troops or the transports for such northern landings?

That is the same arguement made for not doing Dragoon (southern France landing). They found the army to make it work. If it was feasible to do, they would have found the troops. There were at least 2,000 airborne troops sitting in England waiting for their next mission. We had 1 million men sitting in France. Put 100,000 on boats and use them.

Amsterdam was just as close as Normandy beaches from England.
