The Scary Amount of Oil Money ISIS Makes Every Day

President Obama, laying out his strategy last night to defeat the Islamist jihadists known as ISIS, stressed that “it will take time to eradicate a cancer” such as the terrorist group represents in the Middle East.

One hurdle in the way of Obama’s intention to work with allies to “degrade and ultimately destroy” ISIS (also known as ISIL and the Islamic State) is the brutal organization’s control of oil fields in Iraq and Syria.

ISIS uses that oil wealth to help finance its terror operations.

According to the Iraq Energy Institute, an independent, nonprofit policy organization focused on Iraq’s energy sector, the army of radical Islamists controls production of 30,000 barrels of oil a day in Iraq and 50,000 barrels in Syria.

By selling the oil on the black market at a discounted price of $40 per barrel (compared to about $93 per barrel in the free market), ISIS takes in $3.2 million a day.

Why not form a coalition with the Russians, the Chinese, and NATO to recapture those oil fields and administer them under a joint auspice? That does several things. One, it deprives the ISIS cancer of its money lifeline. Two, it pushes them back geographically and roots them out of Iraq. And three, it stabilizes the oil supply for those nations highly dependent on Iraqi oil.

Some provision could probably be made for returning control eventually to Iraq once (and IF) that government ever stabilizes. But I doubt there would be much pressure to do so. Who would it come from?

Finally, an added benefit would be the message it sends the Saudis and the rest of the terrorist sponsors in the Mideast: mess with our energy and we will cut you off at the knees. We’re tired of being held hostage to your annoying squabbles and your bloody extremism. Control it or this is what it will cost you.

First off, who is buying? Second, wouldn’t the discounter be forcing a drop in price for the rest? Where is that?

Why not let ISIS go for all oil fields in all countries to the gulf including Saudi Arabia. The “hijackers” would meet some strong opposition from the 1 billion adherents of the “religion of peace”. Somewhere down the line they would be crushed by that overwhelming force.

I suspect they are not getting full production out, only partial. So the overall effect on the market is a reduction in supply and probably pressures causing increased pricing for the rest.

Do you think Best Buy sells TVs at a discount due to a small amount of stolen TVs are sold in the alleys for cheap prices? Oil is no different.

I’m told the area ISIS controls is about the size of Maryland. Surely we could prevent the shipping of oil out of this area. If they can’t ship it they can’t sell it. Something fishy here.

Bingo!

How do they know its coming from Oil, and if it is why can't they stop it?

We all know that “Oil Money” is code words for Saudi Arabia.

Ever notice how

ISIS/ISIL/IS/FSA/Al-Qaeda (all the same group just a different name)

has the same foreign interest as Saudi Arabia???

Where did they get all their U.S. weapons too???

Excellent graphic.
IMHO, those who are against America finding and utilizing energy sources within our own borders, and those who actively work to prevent such, are accomplices to terrorism.

“I believe there are refineries inside the region they control.”

Well, if there are, it still has to be shipped to be sold. Profits probably going to the bank accounts of the enablers of ISIS. Wonder who they are.

Small refineries that serve that local area. These are not big refineries supporting exports.

So?

How are they moving oil? Bomb hell out of it.
Where are they storing it? Ditto
Who is buying it? Arrange midnight visits of ruthless men to put an end to them.
Who is handling the money? Tie them up in legal knots. If that is not an option, see the visiting angels (of death) program above.

This is not so difficult. These are not “lawful combatants.” The laws of war don’t protect them OR anyone who aids them.

One hurdle in the way of Obama’s intention to work with allies to “make ISI a manageable problem" is the organization’s control of lucrative oil fields in Iraq and Syria.

Oil profits? I keep wondering if ISIS struck a deal w/ neocon godfather--Richard Perle---who was staring his own oil company in Iraq----according to the WSJ (your tax dollars at work).

The US left Iraq with not a barrel of oil to our name.....and rivers of young blood spilled on its decrepit soil.

The war profiteering was mind-boggling. Bush estimated the Iraq strike would cost $50-60 billion........then Bush publicly fired his aide, Larry Lindsey, because Lindsey dared to say the war might cost more like $100 billion. That was in 2007 dollars.

The US has poured into Iraq and Afghanistan some $3 TRILLION, and we're still pouring money down these rat holes........thanks to Richard Perle and rest of the neocons.

===================================================

MOMENTS TO REMEMBER--- On the eve of the US invasion of Iraq, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee heard testimony from Marine Corps Gen Anthony Zinni---and other US military experts ---that the so-called architects (they dared not say "neocon") of the Iraq invasion were totally ill-prepared for a post-combat occupation.

US military experts ridiculed the Bush administration claims that rebuilding could be achieved within two years, that the weapons of mass destruction would be destroyed-------and that a vibrant new political and economic system would emerge.

Over a decade later, Iraq---and the rest of the Mideast----has yet to create a viable political and economic system....a system that is totally incompatible w/ their archaic Islamicist thinking macerated in the vengeful dicta of the Koran.

Neither ISIS nor any other islamic terrorist group produces anything other than violence. They must rely on other sources to supply them with their weaponry. Therefore, it only seems logical that those suppliers be identified and dealt with. Stem the flow of arms to these murderous groups and you will severely cripple their war-making abilities.
