19th century, hell. I was switched when I was a kid, by the black lady who looked after us while my parents were working. She even made me go out and pick it myself from the tree. I was raised a poor black child. My mom didn’t like it when she found out, but the lady wasn’t fired, she was a good babysitter, and she damn sure wasn’t indicted. It’s just how things were. Some of my friends had dads who we described as “strict”. That meant they used the belt.
