An arrest warrant was issued Friday in Texas for Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson after he was indicted on a child abuse charge for using a branch to spank his son. He won't play in Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.

The Vikings said they had deactivated Peterson for Sunday's game Friday evening, just after his lawyer and the Montgomery County sheriff's office confirmed he was

Read Adrian Peterson's lawyer Rusty Hardin's statement in full below:

Adrian Peterson has been informed that he was indicted by a grand jury in Montgomery County, Texas for Injury to a Child. The charged conduct involves using a switch to spank his son. This indictment follows Adrian’s full cooperation with authorities who have been looking into this matter. Adrian is a loving father who used his judgment as a parent to discipline his son. He used the same kind of discipline with his child that he experienced as a child growing up in east Texas. Adrian has never hidden from what happened. He has cooperated fully with authorities and voluntarily testified before the grand jury for several hours. Adrian will address the charges with the same respect and responsiveness he has brought to this inquiry from its beginning. It is important to remember that Adrian never intended to harm his son and deeply regrets the unintentional injury.

Kind of a misleading commentary title without pics of the 4yr old in question.

If these pics and age of the child are accurate, we've moved outside the arena of normal punishment and into rage.

Some sources close to the Vikings organization say the kid is 11 years old.

Spare the rod, spoil the child. Let Adrian play. The pussification of America is a Marxist plot. Google Yuri Besmenov for details.

Not in the Age of Grace.

From my experience, young ones from 2-5, generally will break their will at any form of capital punishment, no matter how lightly applied. It manifests how closely we desire to promote our freewill. When it is violated, that hurts more than the switch.

Now some kids are more rebellious and strong willed than others. They might require the switch.

Usually, mandating they go choose the switch, puts them in a dilemma. Choose one that is soft, and get it swung twice as hard. Choose one that is rigid, and suffer the strokes.
The intent is to give Mom enough time to prepare for the administration of the Board of Education to the Seat of Justice, as much as it is for the young one to ponder their impending discipline.

The root of the problem is a thinking issue. Just swatting them might help capture their attention, but the purpose of the punishment also serves to get the young one to reconsider and think about how to avoid the punishment in the future. It is a powerful incentive.

The best defense for the father is to ask the young one if they would commit their vice again, after their punishment. If not, then it likely worked. If they do, then swat them again, with an extra stroke for not learning the first time.

Looked at the pics. I agree. It was overdone.

Should it be criminal? No.

Definitely should lead to parenting intervention by social services.

I do not think I’d want to lash a 4yo, especially not that much.

Well, there won’t be a petit jury, so there was no need to specify. This will be a plea deal.

That’s not flattery, that’s a longing for those more civilized days when children were raised properly.

The answer you gave is merely an indication of the moral confusion that abounds these days.

Spanking is sometimes a necessary discipline when you have a child who tends to become hysterical when upset. They get in “the zone”..like can’t see or hear and you have to slap them in a safe way that brings them back to reality.
The switch is not appropriate for a four year old.
The NFL however is now “pansified” by espn.

Rush is right.
Don’t “lecture” me when I just want to watch football.

See #41.

Come on, now. Let’s hear you defend this. And don’t forget, this boy’s scrotum (reportedly) carries the same marks.

My mom now in her 80’s will occasionally say she wishes she hadn’t spanked me. I tell her I’m glad she did.

EXCLUSIVE Details On Adrian Peterson Indictment Charges

According to law-enforcement sources, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson beat his 4-year-old son with a tree branch as a form of punishment this summer, an incident that allegedly resulted in multiple injuries to the child. According to reports, Peterson has been indicted in Montgomery County, Texas for injury to a child.
The “whooping” – as Peterson put it when interviewed by police – occurred in Spring, Texas, in May. Peterson’s son had pushed another one of Peterson’s children off of a motorbike video game. As punishment, Peterson grabbed a tree branch – which he consistently referred to as a “switch” – removed the leaves and struck the child repeatedly.

The beating allegedly resulted in numerous injuries to the child, including cuts and bruises to the child’s back, buttocks, ankles, legs and scrotum, along with defensive wounds to the child’s hands. Peterson then texted the boy’s mother, saying that one wound in particular would make her “mad at me about his leg. I got kinda good wit the tail end of the switch.”

Peterson also allegedly said via text message to the child’s mother that he “felt bad after the fact when I notice the switch was wrapping around hitting I (sic) thigh” and also acknowledged the injury to the child’s scrotum in a text message, saying, “Got him in nuts once I noticed. But I felt so bad, n I’m all tearing that butt up when needed! I start putting them in timeout. N save the whooping for needed memories!”

(snip)

See #72. Would you like to cheer for the “disciplinarian” of this child, who apparently is only searching for a more “civilized” era?

Sorry but the law in Texas seems to clearly define it as a felony to injure a child.

My brother has a grandson who he loves but is a little monster and his dad enables him to be a punk. The kid receives no discipline from his father and my brother disciplines him with words but would gladly swat his butt too but his father refuses to allow that. Here’s a case where an ash hole father is creating an ash hole of an undisciplined son. Of course every scenario is a bit different from family to family.

Thanks for the pictures.

The pictures give lie to those who claim this was some out of control rage.

It would have helped even more had they been posted further up thread.

There’s a difference between a spanking and beating.

Finally, a post that is 100% sensible.
