Major networks strangely silent on polls about Obama

A conservative media watchdog says major news networks appear to be going out of their way to bury the news of President Obama's collapsing poll numbers.

During the midterm election cycle of 2006, ABC, CBS and NBC reported regularly about President George W. Bush's low numbers in public opinion polls. But the Media Research Center says during the current midterm cycle, the networks don’t seem to be as interested in reporting similar poll results about Barack Obama's performance.

According to an MRC study, all three of the big news networks have mentioned public opinion surveys related to Obama just nine times in 2014 - almost 14 times less than the 124 times they mentioned Bush's low public support during the same phase of his presidency in 2006.

Rich Noyes, director of research at MRC, thinks the networks are keeping quiet about the discouraging poll results as a way to protect Democratic congressional candidates for this year’s November elections.

“When news networks talk about these polls over and over and over again, it casts the image of a failed president,” Noyes tells OneNewsNow. “Well, why is the president a failure? Look at ObamaCare. Look at the economy. Look at foreign policy. If this becomes the drumbeat in conversations about politics in the months leading up to the election, that would create a very hostile environment for Democratic candidates."

Noyes says the way things are currently lining up it looks like it could be a bad year for Democrats, despite efforts of the mainstream media.

"They've had a long time to figure out a way to salvage the situation for the Democratic Party,” he says. “And so far they seem to be in a bigger mess than ever."
