My understanding is that the human immune system is taxed by both bacteria and viruses - therefore, antibiotics control the bacteria infections/fight while leaving the human immune system to concentrate wholly on the viral.

Everyone understands that antibiotics are for bacterial infections.

However, for a virus to mutate - the host has to be compromised in some manner or have something present to force that mutation. The US society is so bent on medications to alter mood, weight, sleep, etc that at some point the immune system is compromised. Most people have a “gut” issue where the immune system starts and recently “pro and pre biotics” have greatly aided in people NOT getting sick.

Again, the US diet and food processing - especially the meat supply - stinks in the US (or the reliance of other nations to provide that for us - i.e. China).

No. If you have a viral infection, without having developed a secondary bacterial infection, taking antibiotics will not only not help your body, your immune system fight off the virus, it can actually negatively impact those helpful bacteria in your gut and make you more susceptible to future bacterial infections.

Yes and no. A lot of people think antibiotics are effective against viruses. Many people do not know the differences between diseases caused by viruses vs. those caused by bacteria vs. those caused by parasitic infections like Malaria.

No. To paraphrase that car insurance commercial; “That’s not how this works; this is not how any of this works. : ),

Science Today: Virus Mutation | California Academy of Sciences

Note that the “Spanish Flu” influenza virus mutated well before the advent of antibiotics and most of the people who died from it were young and otherwise healthy.
