At least responsible government still means something. The Scottish ministry lost confidence and Salmond was right to resign his post.

Exactly. FReepers need to read who he was, and who the Scottish National Party was/is. The coalition against independence was formed from the Conservative party, the Scottish Labour Party and the Liberal Democrats (interesting alliance) all of whom for various reasons in opposition to the SNP.

The SNP was for retaining monarchical relations/titles with the UK while being “independent” and was for unilateral nuclear disarmament (ie. elimination of all the missile sites the UK has in Scotland including the Trident UK/US base in Faslane, Firth on Clyde) thereby rendering the UK essentially disarmed as regards any invasion or excursions by the newly stalinized Russians under Putin. The SNP ie. was/is a member of the UK parliament and is further left of the Labour party. So this was a combined NO effort.

Also of interest is that the EU would not entertain entrance of a new Scotland into the EU. And huge issues on banking independence that ALL Scots were aware of, and therefore against— moving the Royal Bank of Scotland to London, for instance as well as Lloyds Bank— out of Edingburgh?!!

Independence isn’t over- just not the bs put out by the left of center SNP. Now remains to be seen what action will be demanded of Cameron (yeah, right).

From what I’ve read Salmond leads the National Socialist Party. Shades of the past

I was hoping for independence, because Scotland could not possibly afford the socialism they wanted. Thereby, England would immediately become Tory, and Scotland would become a socialist wasteland, until the Scots learned to become conservative.

Oh well. They can all stay in their middling muddle.
