State out $675K grant but still plans to give out millions more in tax money ( Colorado )

Four years ago, Kirk Swallow received state money to set up a compressed natural gas filling facility at the Rifle Shell station he co-owns.

The Colorado Energy Office, then under Gov. Bill Ritter and known as the Governor’s Energy Office, gave Swallow’s company a $675,000 grant — money from fines collected from companies that violated state regulations. Swallow said he chipped in about $300,000.

But, in June, Swallow had to permanently shut down the CNG pumps at 101 Railroad Ave., in Rifle, Colo. He said he was losing money because of increased competition, excessive electricity fees to run the pumps and not enough demand.

“I wasn’t making any money,” said Swallow, who maintains in the end he was losing $2,000 to $4,000 a month on his CNG pumps. “I was selling like 7,000 gallons a month (initially), and that dropped down to 2,000.”

Around the same time Swallow was closing down the CNG pumps the state lost $675,000 on, the state energy office was ready to hand eight other station owners up to $500,000 each in tax money to open CNG pumps.

And the tax money for CNG and alternative fuels is expected to flow to private businesses at least through 2017.

The energy office plans to spend a total of $15 million, obtained from federal clean-air funds, to build CNG and other alternative-fuel stations in Colorado. The Regional Air Quality Council will distribute an additional $15 million for the purchase of alternative-fuel fleet vehicles.

Swallow said at this point there isn’t enough demand for CNG to be giving out that kind of money.

“I think it’s cracked,” Swallow said. “I built a station, and no one came.”

I think you ought to read it. I don’t recall FR as saying that violence is sometimes the only solution,

I don't have anything to do with that, but you should talk to your political leaders about it. If they don't listen to you, start a new party and replace them.

But don't talk to Sarah Palin about it because she took the federal for the Wasilla waste treatment plant and the bridge to no where.

you prefer pollution and imported fuel.

Where does that come form? It is not true. Are you making things up just to start an argument?

"Where does that come from?"

That would be a normal conclusion from your position.

In the broadest sense, the 3 of you are telling me the way it ought to be. And I am telling you the way it is.

When people talk about the way it ought be, they rarely agree as to exactly how it ought to be.

That is the problem. So all the conservatives, or rightwingers, or GOP, or teapartiers don't like the way it is and all agree it needs to change. But if you ask exactly how it ought be, they never can come up with anything, because they can't agree among themselves.

So excuse me if I get it wrong when I guess the way you think it ought to be.

The way it ought to be: People and businesses pay for their own crap.

People who praise and support and call for more subsidies and handouts are NOT conservative in the slightest

Like I heard on the radio “you have the right for your opinion but you do not have the right to you own facts” Don’t try to be a mind reader and you won’t get into trouble.

If we all had the same opinion there would not be no liberals, centrists nor Conservatives.
