For more than a decade, Pakistan has sent signals that it’s attempting to bolster its nuclear arsenal with “tactical” weapons — short-range missiles that carry a smaller warhead and are easier to transport.

Well that's just fan-freaking-tastic. Don't worry at all about the nation who started the Taliban and hid bin Laden creating sea-based nuclear cruise missiles.

Without going into the shia/sunni/alewite splits, Pakistan is not a friend of the US or the west. Pakistan is an nuclear power.

Moreover, Pakistan is actively encouraging terror groups and has abandoned some of its sovereign territory to them.

Now, an internal revolt threatens the regime.

If this is not the definition of a failed state, I don't know what is. A failed state with a nuclear stockpile threatened by internal forces and terror gangs. Neighboring Iran is on the brink of developing nuclear weapons. India already has them.

What a tinderbox.
