Define US interest? I bet Syrian military is primarily targeted so the ISIS would have an upper hand. It worked in Libya and look how wonderful it is these days.

Obama is intending to "mistakenly" hit Syrian military and Assad loyalists, knowing the close proximity of Russian assets to those targets, and hoping that modern Russian hardware will respond.

The US will lose some aircraft, and possibly an asset.
