Authorities search for Eric Frein near Snow Hill Road in Price Township (Shelter in Place)
Pocono Record ^ | 23 September 2014 | Staff reports

Posted on 09/23/2014 11:42:02 AM PDT by RBW in PA

Authorities this morning are searching the area of Snow Hill Road in Price Township, near the border with Barrett Township outside Cresco, as part of their ongoing search for alleged cop killer Eric Frein.

Police vehicles are parked along or driving along Route 447 and Snow Hill and Beartown roads, which both run off Route 447.

There has been police presence in the area for days, and many residents have been unable to leave or return to their homes.

Frein, 31, of Canadensis, is accused of shooting two troopers, killing one and critically wounding the other, on Sept. 12 at the state police station in Blooming Grove.

I know the press traditions of fairness, accuracy and objectivity are long gone, but I miss them more than ever.

I would like to see some reporter give us Frien’s side of the story for a change, for the sake of balance and fairness. Let us decide what is true.

We’re told constantly that Frien is a murderous monster but nobody has given us his side of the story. What motivation did he have for allegedly shooting those cops? What are his beliefs? Let’s see some balance here.

My guess is he’s dug out a deep shelter, maybe in the side of a gully. I don’t think he’s out wandering the woods.
But who knows

And most if not all of the folks who actually live here are very grateful to the police, FBI, ATF, etc, for how they are handling the search. They have a very difficult job of trying to balance safely hunting for this man but do so carefully among neighborhoods of families. They do keep closing roads off and on and it has greatly inconvenienced those residents at times, but people have generally been able to go about their normal lives.

Regarding searching the woods for the assassin, these neighborhoods ARE the woods with houses scattered among the trees. The fact that they were able to identify the shooter within a few days and get him cornered in one small section of the Poconos is gratifying. I drive by that police barracks frequently with my children and would have been in the direct line of fire if we drove that road the Friday night it happened. Not just the police are at risk from this man, but our local homes and families could get caught in the path of his shooting.

Thank you to all the police, troopers and federal agents involved in this dangerous search.... may God Bless you all and keep you and the civilians safe until you have him disabled or in custody.

Amen to that.

So many people don’t understand or realize or appreciate that good law abiding people support good law enforcement officers and good law enforcement officers want the good, law abiding gun owning citizens on their side.

You are assuming that LEO have, if fact, cornered Frein. He allegedly shot the cops 12 days ago. LEO found his vehicle two days later only after a citizen found it stuck in a swamp -- a mere two miles from the shooting scene. Only then did LEO identify Frein as a suspect. In the ten days between then and now, LEO have portrayed Frein as an amateur survivalist who planned the attack months if not years in advance. They have been claiming for the last four days that they are "hot on on his trail." Maybe, maybe not.

Perhaps Frein did not crash his vehicle into the swamp, but deliberately abandoned it there in an effort to convince LEO that he is still in the area. If he planned the attack way in advance, then he may have had a second escape vehicle or help from another person, and could have traveled hundreds of miles from the shooting scene in the two days between the attack and the discovery of his vehicle, and by now he could be hiding out in Canada or some remote place in the Rocky Mountains. Perhaps he deliberately left the AK-47 and other items in the search area to falsely convince LEO and their tracking dogs that they are hot on his trail. Pure speculation on my part, but I have the feeling that there is more to this guy than what LEO have told us. Maybe the rumors are true and he really is a former spook who is acting out like Edward Snowdon.

I drive by that police barracks frequently with my children and would have been in the direct line of fire if we drove that road the Friday night it happened. Not just the police are at risk from this man, but our local homes and families could get caught in the path of his shooting.

Except if Frein had shot you or your children instead of a police officer, there would not be over 400 LEO still searching for this guy 24/7, twelve days after the shooting.

I agree that the time factor makes the law enforcement look like Keystone Cops. But your comment that if a regular citizen was the victim there wouldn’t be much attention given is absurd in light of the effort put into capturing the Washington Beltway sniper. The cops were not the target there, remember?

The Beltway ‘sniper’ is a single example compared w/ hundreds (probably thousands) treated as trivia by comparison. The fact is LE pulls out all the stops when one of theirs is offed. Certainly they attend to all murders to varying degrees but not w/ the same full court press dead COPs get. Its a fact that cant be denied.

Another factor that makes the Beltway incident unique is its proximity to our national govt. When their lives are endangered all the stops get pulled out too. See the trend? Govt is certainly good at taking care of itself before all others.

You have several “perhaps” in there.... lots and lots of wild guesses and negative assumptions, some of which are ridiculous if you had been following all the details since the beginning.

Those of us who live here have followed this closely and some of us even know a bit more than is being released publicly so far... I live here and have full confidence that they have the right guy and have done a stellar job so far of tracking him and cornering him into a small area.

I have been following the story since day one. I live witin an hour of the shooting scene. I have hunted and fished the areas between I-84 and Route 17 (NY) to the north many times over the years. I frequently travel to the Hawley/Honesdale area to take care of business interests. LEO have released very few “details.” I never even suggested that LEO have the wrong guy.

I used the Beltway sniper as an example and I think you know it. There are other sniper incidents that could also make my point. And it is true that the longer this goes on the dumber the PSP looks. I’m less than 20 miles from this place and as a member of an SAR team have searched this particular wooded area at lest twice in the past 10 years. It is a hilly dense forest but since he hasn’t been found after the week + then he most likely isn’t there.

And I certainly don’t support the bully tactics of the PSP with respect to the locals. They should be more accomodating to them, allow them to access their homes. If they have 100s of LEs to search the area, then they can dig up a few to escort homeowners in and out of their places to get some supplies and check up on pets and such.

However, the point of this thread is the seemingly unlimited resources being put into place here. I agree that it is a lot but you cannot compare this to your garden variety murder. This was a planned (dare I say it) execution by a sniper. If a sniper opens up on any regular Joe, there will likewise be a tremendous response by LE.

I get the part about our personal freedoms being stripped. I get it. But you cannot have a sniper running around loose in a rural area.

Thanks for explaining your position. I see some of your points, others not at all. Its the COPs who are the problem making the situation far more dangerous than initially. That and they have no authority to keep people from their homes. In fact no one knows that area better than the people who live there. The only people shot are the COPs, no one else. So, still the COPs are going after this guy more for revenge than safety.

After reading thru some of what was said at this afternoon's presser by the PSP and reported/posted at the WNEP-TV website, this sounds like more of a fustercluck by the day.

1,000 cops, 'shoot to kill', multiple choppers, 'we're closing in' (x100), 'multiple sightings', due process out the window, etc, etc . . .
