Conservatives won French Senate elections Sunday to take control of parliaments upper house, handing President François Hollandes Socialists a new setback.
The far-right National Front party also gained its first two Senate seats in the balloting.
The Senate press office said a final count will await tallies from all of Frances overseas holdingsnot likely until Monday, but it was already clear that the conservatives were back in control of the 348-seat chamber.

I’m not sure how big a deal this really is. Aren’t the French conservatives basically the same as the Workers World Party here in the States?

I’m waiting breathlessly for the designation of “far-left” to be applied to any of the socialist/commie parties.

The mainstream” Right like the UMP is similar to Cameron’s “Lavatories” in England. You get great emotional image making speeches.
The FN is more nationalistic but also more accepting of socialistic premises of the French system....

So ends the brief Socialist control of the French Senate, which they won 3 years ago, ending 53 years of “conservative” rule.
I know Olog, they are even worse than New Zealand’s John Key, but still, I would consider this a positive.
