CBS Hillary Clinton Show Loses 1/3 Younger Viewers by 2nd Episode
FrontPage Mag ^ | 09/30/2014 | Daniel Greenfield

Madam Secretary, CBS’ 100 million dollar Hillary infomercial, wasn’t doing too well with younger viewers to begin with.

You would think that 60 Minutes with its senescent cast of droners would have less younger viewers than Madam Secretary, but don’t count out the Hillary magic.

The current ratings show that Madam Secretary lost 4 million 60 Minutes viewers and lost half of its younger 18-49 viewers. That’s the demo prized by advertisers and Madam Secretary is going to have trouble staying on the air if it can’t get them to tune in.

Younger voters are also an obvious target for the Hillary 2016 campaign which is what Madam Secretary is really an ad for. That’s why CBS’s version of Hillary Clinton is being played by a woman twenty years younger than her.

When your demographics are older than 60 Minutes, you know your TV show and your campaign are in big trouble.

Now it’s doing even worse with the handful of younger viewers it still hadn’t alienated.

The latest ratings show that Madam Secretary’s 2nd episode is down to a 1.4 rating among the demo, viewers 18-49, down from 2.0.

Up against the premiere of the Simpsons and Once Upon a Time, which had demo ratings of 3.9 and 3.4, Madam Secretary performed as miserably as Hillary did as Secretary of State.

The overall series has lost 2 million viewers with its 2nd episode. That doesn’t look very promising. Its overall ratings aren’t catastrophic yet, but CBS is obsessive about retaining younger viewers. It already does well with older viewers.

Madam Secretary can’t afford to keep losing viewers 18-45 or it’s toast. It’s already drawn down to Good Wife and CSI level ratings in the demo. If it keeps falling beyond that, it hits Blue Bloods territory. Any further and it’s gone.

By way of comparison, Scorpion, CBS’ new drama, pulled in a 3.20 demo. NCIS New Orleans debuted with a 2.50 in the demo.

Robin Williams’ Crazy Ones got the ax after a season finale that pulled in a 1.30 in the demo. Hostages was canceled after dropping below 1.00 in the demo. Intelligence was canceled after a 1.20 in the demo.

Madam Secretary is performing with younger viewers like a show that’s been on the air for five years. At best. And that’s not a good thing.

The question is how much money is CBS willing to lose to promote Hillary Clinton?

For the life of me, I cannot understand the appeal of that woman.

I would not watch this show. Half of the country probaby would not watch this show.

If they can’t even get the people who might vote for Hillary to watch this show, it is doomed.

Another thing is that people get tired of politics and watch shows for pure entertainment. This isn’t a pure entertainment show.

My best guess id the purpose of this show is to sex up the job of Secretary Of State in preparation for a Hillary run for President. Other than SOS, Mrs Clinton hasn’t much to brag about, other than being Mrs. Clinton.

CBS should be charged with illegal in-kind campaign contributions and using the public airwaves to illegally influence the outcome of an election.

Yeah, I always think of Hillary when I see Tea Leoni.

It would have been more realistic if they dyed Rosie ODonnell hair blonde and let her play Hillary.

I had a love hate thing with the old show The West Wing, hated the politics but loved the writing and the stories, mostly except when they got too heavy handed against guns. It's sort of the same thing here. I rather liked the way the main character handled another potential Benghazi in the episode Sunday by hiring a PMC to protect the compound and going around the POTUS chief of staff. That was pretty good, I thought. Hey, it's just television.

Ok here’s how to save this show.

Make it a comedy.

Change the name to Madam Secretary-Drunk Weeble.

Drunk Weebles don’t just wobble they fall down.

She screws up everything she does and gets people killed, then have her fall on her head at the end of the show every week.

It’s a laugh riot I tell you.

Played by a woman “twenty years” younger than Hitlery?

More like 30+ years younger.

I haven't heard of the “Hillary Show”.

Is it a cartoon, or will it be live action?

Does she travel around in the old Mystery van used by Scooby-Doo and his pals?

If she does ride around in the old Mystery van, I bet she'll replace Scooby-Doo with Scrapy-Doo.

Not even the trailers cut it. They are so desperate they are advertising on FOX cable.

Another farce and more over acting.

Yeah, I'm thinking more of someone like Ruth Buzzi or Lily Tomlin...

People such as Hillary spend their lives telling the rest of us that they are serving us and are ‘for the people’, but are often (as definitely seems to be the case with her) lacking in empathy for others. They will step on and discard people like garbage if it helps their career, and even if it doesn’t - if in the mood. I am to the point at which I literally get physically ill when thinking about the reality of who we have in positions of power.

It’s the same reckoning that keeps MSNBC on the air. Money and viewership just don’t matter.

Hillary Clinton is old news, and certainly not exciting. Unless said person is already a Hillary sycophant.

If they think this show is going to attract Millennial voters, they might as well ask them if they want to play Pogs or Game Boy.

Scorpion's first episode was excusable, as the actors and writers are feeling their way around. I thought the writing for the second one was just plain awful.

It's a shame. A well-written, well acted show about bright people who are outliers saving the world would fill a void. Leverage and Numbers were much better at that theme....sigh, miss them.

Hope those in charge of the show wake up in time. The cast seems fine; it's the writing that's awful. JMHO

They are beating the drum like mad for this series. Tons of advertising on other channels and radio. It’s so obviously a setup for Hillary it’s barf inducing.

GOP Rep: ‘Politically Correct’ Secret Service Has Allowed 1,000 Security Lapses

Ordinarily, I don't think this infomercial for the hag would make it to the third episode, but since SeeBS wants to continue to curry favor with the murderous arKansas crowd, it will probably continue in 2015.
