Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson's dad discovered his son was gay and a thief on the same day.
The actor admits he had built up quite a collection of stolen gay pornography magazines when he was finally caught trying to leave a store in his native Montana with a backpack full of saucy publications at the age of 14.
In a recent an interview with Aisha Tyler for her Girl on Guy podcast, the red-faced star revealed, "I always considered that (incident) my coming out... It was so humiliating. "I had been stealing porn for a while. I had quite a little collection. And I would bring it into the house, and then I'd get nervous, so I'd hide it under the mattress, or I'd hide it behind a shed in the backyard. And then it would get rained on, and I'd have to go get the barbecue tongs to (get it out)." But when he got caught, he felt awful: "The woman (at the store) asked me if I had anything in my backpack. She was giving me the benefit of the doubt... She took me to the back room (and) they brought my dad in, and they showed him the nature of the material I was stealing, and it was really, really humiliating."
Ferguson admitted his dad took the drama quite well, adding, "(He) was like, 'OK, are you gay?' And I was, like, 14. I didn't really know. I didn't know what I was going through. But then in my later teen years I did come out to him (properly), and it was like he needed to be told three times. "(When I was 21) he asked me if I had a girlfriend...

Why was it humiliating if there’s nothing wrong with it? The cact is he never grew past 14 and his teenage fascination with his own genitals that he transferred to narcissistic fascination with other men’s genitals.
FWIW I get the exact same reaction when I tell my family why I won't watch this show. My mom believes that 10-25% of the country is gay, and all because CBS/NBS/ABC (and especially ABC) has that many gay characters in their prime-time sitcoms. Usually I have to resort to "the show doesn't appeal to me" to end the discussion, and even that they don't understand. I do enjoy tweaking them a bit by mentioning that they never say The Middle appeals to them :)

I agree that program is one of the most socially destructive things on the airwaves. This show, along with Will and Grace, is likely why we have gays getting married today.
Sadly it is sandwiched between two other shows, The Middle and The Goldbergs, which are actually pretty decent.
I am impressed however that he managed to find the gay porn store in Montana.
What kind of store you would take your kid to has gay porn openly displayed?
I’ve seen ads for this show and recall having been offended by them.I’ve never watched it.I never will.
Who effing cares about whose gay and who isn’t? Why do people feel compelled to make a big announcement about who they like to ‘’do’’?? The idea of making these big announcements is so stupid , because then they piss, moan and complain because everybody isn’t receptive to the announcement.

Healthy homosexual “families,” like global warming can only exist in the carefully controlled fantasies created by Hollywood. An honest episode of “Modern Family” would have the effeminate homosexual show up to work with a black eye after a domestic dispute.
I don’t anyone who watches that show but I have been told by most of my friends to watch “Orange is the New Black”.
I tell them, I don’t have cable or satellite anymore.
Some (church-going) family members go out of their way to proclaim who their favorite characters are....makes them feel so tolerant and open minded I think.

Sadly, man in his desperate, enemy led lust for self omnipotence, has dispelled these feelings as damaging to a child's self worth and identity, when these feelings of conviction are the path to both through Him. The child is then led down the path of false identity , not "I'm me", but "I'm gay."
